Description

Job Title: Mortgage Loan Originator

FLSA: Exempt
Function: Mortgage Lending
Reports To: Mortgage Sales Manager


Purpose:  Increase mortgage loan portfolio by developing business contacts and attracting mortgage business. Educate members on credit union mortgage products and sell applicable products and services. Provide members with an extraordinary experience in accordance with the credit union’s core values and service promise


Responsibilities:

  • Interview loan applicants to obtain personal and financial information, answering questions and educating members on beneficial credit union products and services
  • Originate mortgage loan applications for members who are seeking a mortgage
  • Analyze member’s financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility and the proper loan program
  • Verify and examine loan application and closing documents for accuracy, obtain additional information as necessary and forward to the appropriate department
  • Communicate with appraisers, title officers, escrow officers, loan processor and underwriter
  • Meet mortgage loan operational standards and goals
  • Investigate and reconcile member’s questions/concerns with regard to their loan products; recommend and direct members to the appropriate department or individual when the request is beyond established authority
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all state and federal legal obligations and regulations relating to mortgages
  • Serve as liaison between the credit union and various community associations and businesses
  • Attract new mortgage loan applications by developing relationships within the community, specifically with the real estate community; making sales calls to prospective mortgage members
  • Attend home mortgage functions such as home shows, Board of Realtors Functions, Home Builders Association functions promoting products and services
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the credit union’s products and services
  • Build rapport and use active listening to identify member’s needs while actively researching member’s accounts to determine consultative sales and cross-sell opportunities
  • Support the credit union’s focus on member service and sales
  • Promote and maintain a confidential environment to protect member, employee, and credit union information
  • Follow all credit union policies, procedures, and requirements, in addition to all applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC and USA PATRIOT Act including Customer Identification Program, Customer Due Diligence, identifying high risk accounts, and reporting suspicious activities to the BSA Department
  • Create and promote a positive professional image of one’s self and the credit union
  • Exemplify the credit union’s core purpose and core values
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program
  • Three to five years mortgage lending experience, including, but not limited to mortgage principles, mortgage loan originations, etc.
  • Service and sales experience desired
