WORK LOCATION: Remote; preference given to applicants within a 50 mile radius of a PMC Campus; Jeffersonville, IN, Dallas, TX or Decatur, GA.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Coordinator for Pierce Mortuary Colleges, Inc. is responsible for managing and overseeing the Funeral Directing Practicum and Clinical Embalming experiences for students enrolled in the Funeral Service program. This role ensures that students receive quality practical training in funeral service settings while maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and college policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and maintain affiliation agreements with funeral homes, mortuaries, and other industry-related facilities for student clinical placements.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate students during their clinical rotations to ensure they meet competency requirements. This will only be done on an as needed basis since they will only evaluate final embalming competencies for the schools on an as needed basis.
- Complete grading and verification of all Clinical Embalming case reports and Funeral Directing practicum work for each College.
- Ensure clinical sites comply with health, safety, and ethical standards in funeral service practice.
- Maintain accurate record of affiliation agreements, preceptor applications, preceptor and funeral home/mortuary location licensing, formaldehyde testing, funeral home/mortuary site inspections, and confirmation of preceptor training for each College.
- Maintain each Colleges preceptor log, include monthly license verification checks for preceptors and funeral home/mortuary locations. Ensure logs are regularly updated on each Colleges clinical embalming page for student reference.
- Assist in the continued maintenance of Funeral Directing Practicum and Clinical Embalming Case report templates and the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and assessment tools.
- Participate in curriculum development and program assessment to enhance clinical education.
- Conduct virtual and in-person site visits and provide ongoing support to clinical partners to maintain high-quality training environments.
- Collaborate with each college at the end of each quarter to affirm seniors have completed their clinical embalming and funeral directing practicum work before NBE certification.
- Collaborate with each college to assemble any embalming clinical or funeral directing practicum related documentation that may be needed for accreditation purposes.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate hands-on clinical training with classroom instruction.
- Stay current with industry trends, accreditation requirements, state laws, and best practices in funeral service education.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- Experience in teaching, training, or supervising students in a clinical setting preferred.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards (e.g., ABFSE) and compliance requirements for funeral service education.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple clinical partnerships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning management systems (LMS) preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Funeral Services, Mortuary Science or a related field required.
- Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer (or the ability to reciprocate licensure in the state where each college is located).
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the funeral service industry. Including a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an embalmer.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is performed in a combination of office, classroom, and clinical site environments.
- Some travel is required for site visits and partnership development.
- A flexible schedule may be required to accommodate student needs and clinical site operations.
- Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
- Limited exposure to physical risk.
