Job Description
Sewickley Academy seeks a passionate, enthusiastic, and experienced Lower School Librarian to inspire a love of reading and research in our students. The ideal candidate will create a vibrant, welcoming library environment that supports our school's mission and curriculum while fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature and information literacy.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with faculty to integrate research skills and information literacy into the curriculum.
- Inspire a love of reading through book talks, author visits, and library programs.
- Teach students how to find, evaluate, and use information responsibly.
- Maintain a diverse and relevant collection of print and digital resources.
- Manage an inviting library space that supports learning and collaboration.
- Utilize digital tools to enhance instruction and research skills.
- Develop programs that connect students, faculty, and families with library resources.
- Demonstrate a desire for constant professional and personal growth by regularly participating in and seeking out professional learning opportunities.
- Promote school life by sponsoring student activities and serving on academic committees.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
- 3+ years of experience as an elementary school librarian, preferably in an independent school.
- Strong knowledge of children’s literature and digital resources.
- Experience with library management systems and educational technology.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging library environment.
