The Senior Marketing Manager of Sport, B2B, & Advancement role is a key business partner role within the USSF Marketing team, working closely with the Sporting, Soccer Growth, and Advancement teams. Additionally, this role will spearhead a newly created area of focus for the Federation surrounding B2B marketing opportunities at leading industry forums. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious person who can bring fresh and innovative thinking to USSF, including future growth opportunities.
A consensus builder and change maker, the candidate must have exceptional interpersonal skills to work across many departments to drive innovation and change. This role is seeking an individual who can take a holistic view of U.S. Soccer and incorporate a high level of planning, organization and measurement to help drive relevance for heightened areas of focus for the Federation.
Position Description
Reporting into the VP, Integrated Marketing, Brand & Operations, you will lead the B2B marketing strategies that drive relevancy & reach for the Federation’s divisions that oversee its 27 national teams, participation growth, and strategic engagement with current and prospective donors. You will also be responsible for curating a B2B strategy for U.S. Soccer at influential events. This role requires a candidate with high levels of comfort not only servicing cross-functional marketing needs but also embracing an entrepreneurial mindset to build a new function from the ground up.
You will be the day-to-day business partner, and the go-to point of contact, for bringing a commercial mindset to the development of all go-to market strategies that seek to amplify efforts from the above key teams. In doing so, you will lead the briefing process and activation coordination with your cross-functional counterparts across paid media, CRM, owned & operated platforms, social and influencers. This will be achieved by working with key marketing leaders and managers across Partnership Marketing, Growth Marketing, Fan Engagement, Content, Social Media, Lifecycle Marketing, and more. Led by data and insights, you will leverage audience learnings and sentiments to help influence strategic road maps against each team’s priorities.
This position will furthermore help U.S. Soccer magnify its mission of existing in service to soccer across external tentpole events as we strive to increase our brand’s relevancy ahead of key tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, LA Olympics 2028, and many more. You will identify, strategize, and activate authentic integrations that elevate what we stand for on some of the most preeminent business stages across the nation and world.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the GTM marketing plans for different Federation teams that target specialist audiences across U.S. Soccer. You will serve as a key business partner in helping amplify efforts focused on:
- Growing participation and retention in soccer
- Making soccer more inclusive, accessible, and safe for participants
- Empowering our ecosystem to deliver the best experiences possible for participants
- Referee development and advocacy at all levels of the game
- Promoting and engaging our Extended National Teams, Youth National Teams, and Alumni
- Maximizing and diversifying investments to sustainably grow the game at all levels
- Architect, defend and ultimately operationalize recommended business strategies for how U.S. Soccer grows its relevancy via marquee conferences, symposiums, forums, and other targeted events that transcend business, creativity, the arts, culture, social impact, and more. Strive to educate the broader changemaker community on how U.S. Soccer exists in service to soccer.
- Serve as a newly established marketing advocate and voice for areas of the Federation that require reemphasized focus against U.S. Soccer’s broader mission.
- Present and sell-in proposals, business cases and investment for future marketing and growth opportunities to senior management.
- Spearhead strategic plans with Content, Communications, Partnership Marketing, Media, CRM, Growth Marketing and agency partners to activate all recommended plans.
- A keen & critical creative eye, responsible for all briefs to ensure impactful assets created for each audience on time and on budget.
- Feed into the Integrated Marketing calendar to ensure full promotion planning is aligned to budgets and goals, with wider Federation support clearly laid out.
- Establish a robust campaign evaluation process with recommendations for future planning and execution.
- Feed into the Integrated Marketing Calendar to ensure no key events are missed whilst reacting in the short term to changing marketing dynamics or new initiatives.
- Support key internal events such as the Annual General Meeting, Commercial & Advancement summits.
- Working with Communications leads to ensure all campaigns are amplified with a support plan to maximize reach.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5-7 years of full-time experience in B2B marketing at a sports property, brand or agency.
- Knowledge & passion for soccer in the U.S. is a definite advantage.
- The ideal candidate will have diversified marketing experience across sports, B2B marketing, fundraising, and events. A strategic marketer and commercial thinker, combined with a self-starter who is entrepreneurial and has creative flair for storytelling that inspires.
- You will be obsessed with playing a role in helping grow the game of soccer across the country with current players, untapped potential and their communities, current and prospective donors, and the broader influential corporate landscape.
- This candidate has experience wearing many hats and prioritizing different aspirations from several organizational stakeholders.
- A proven track record of successfully developing and implementing marketing strategies that were aimed at growing a sport’s penetration and participation levels.
- Experience formulating campaigns and communication frameworks that help promote an organization’s potential impact to the philanthropic community.
- The ideal candidate has experience in, and is comfortable with, B2B sales.
- A strong, balanced blend of high EQ + IQ. Not only should this candidate be a smart critical thinker, but they must also display the aptitude to navigate through interpersonal relationships with a high sense of self-awareness.
- Experience writing and delivering briefs for both internal creative teams and external agencies and assessing their adherence to the request.
- Solid understanding of analytics with the ability to analyze data and make actionable insights to drive strategy and decision making.
- Previous experience managing multiple budgets with a keen eye for fiscal responsibility.
- Significant experience designing and executing marketing strategy around the different user journeys via digital marketing channels including search, social, display, affiliates, CRM and influencers.
- Expert knowledge of social media platforms, as well as a knowledge of market specific social channels.
- Extensive written and verbal communication skills, ability to listen effectively, constructively challenge and be forward thinking to build agreement and alignment across teams.
- Be tenacious, be pro-active and solution focused, believe in the art of the possible and be able to follow through with attention to detail.
- Be a change maker, able to influence & energize people and build collaborative relationships.
- Experienced in embedding a trading culture and ability to upskill own and other teams.
- Experience identifying different sports trends and scenes on a regional and national level.
- Must be a collaborative communicator as a thought partner for senior management and partners.
- Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends & holidays. Travel up to 10% of the time to all domestic U.S. Soccer controlled matches.
