Job Summary: Resident Aides provide essential support and assistance to residents in a residential care community, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. Primary responsibilities include helping residents with daily personal care as well as supporting their engagement in social and recreational activities which promote their physical and emotional health.

Successful candidates will be passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in the lives of seniors. Strong communication skills, patience, and a compassionate approach are essential as this position works closely with residents, their families, and the healthcare team to deliver high-quality care.


Schedule Considerations: This position is WEEKENDS ONLY up to 16 hrs/wk. Consistent schedule, holiday shifts as scheduled/needed (24/7/365). Every other weekend or every weekend schedule options available across multiple shifts.


Compensation: $18.45-21.95 commensurate with experience and credentials.

Requirements

Typical job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist residents with personal care and daily living activities as indicated in their service plan;
  • Support resident participation in social and recreational activities;
  • Monitor and document residents' physical and emotional wellbeing, reporting any changes to nursing staff;
  • Participate in establishing interventions for residents;
  • Maintain a clean and safe living environment;
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care;
  • Monitor nurse call console and provide necessary assistance in a timely fashion;
  • Complete rounds at regularly scheduled intervals to insure the safety of residents and the facility;
  • Report all accidents/injuries to supervisor immediately, documenting them on appropriate form(s);
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-services as scheduled;
  • Maintain required job-related certifications specific to job description, if any;
  • Work independently, within a team, and with direct supervision;
  • Exhibit professionalism, honesty, and respect;
  • Maintain a positive attitude;
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, supervisors, residents, and other stakeholders;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Standards:

  • Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs pertaining to:
  • Safety: including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs;
  • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Support and participate in common teamwork:
  • Cooperate and work together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment;
  • Use tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations;
  • Uphold resident rights as stipulated in New York State Department of Health regulations (i.e. protect and respect dignity and confidentiality of residents);
  • Follow up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns;
  • Promote positive public relations with residents, family members and guests;
  • Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform, and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred;
  • One (1) year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a medical or healthcare setting;
  • HHA or PCA credential preferred;
  • MAT (medication administration training) or willingness to obtain;
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and with empathy to build rapport and achieve high quality of care;
  • Basic knowledge of resident rights;
  • Must complete basic First Aid, Heimlich, and Bloodborne Pathogen training within three (3) months of hire and maintain certifications.
  • Able to push, pull, lift, and carry trays of food, laundry bags, heavy boxes, and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds;
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, frequently bending, stooping, and reaching;
  • Satisfactory completion of post-offer, pre-employment physical required.
