Description
The School Director serves as both the chief administrator and philosophical/instructional leader of Laramie Montessori Charter School. Established in 2008 as Wyoming's first Montessori charter school, LMCS provides a quality, alternative public education that honors children's intrinsic desire to learn through authentic Montessori approaches. This position is responsible for implementing the school's mission to support whole-child development through an authentic Montessori environment that honors each child's intrinsic motivation and unique development.
Start date is expected to be no later than July 1, 2025.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Principal Endorsement from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (or ability to obtain)
- Experience in an educational leadership role
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead educational teams
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Master's degree in education, educational leadership, or related field
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori certification or completed Montessori leadership training
- 3+ years experience in elementary and/or early childhood education and instruction
- Experience as a Montessori classroom teacher
- Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy of inclusion, student-led education, and curriculum implementation
- Experience balancing Montessori principles within a public-school framework
- Charter school experience
- Knowledge of state-level education laws and policies
- Experience with supporting diverse student communities with individualized needs including Title 1A, IEPs, and 504 plans
Primary Responsibilities
Educational Leadership
- Maintain consistent classroom presence
- Conduct regular classroom observations with meaningful feedback to teachers
- Support authentic Montessori instruction while meeting state requirements
- Implement consistent, positive discipline aligned with Montessori principles
- Lead professional development that enhances Montessori implementation
- Promote student growth through both state and Montessori-specific assessments
Administrative & Community Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations with consistent presence and accessibility
- Develop and enforce clear protocols for discipline, safety, and daily procedures
- Create comprehensive systems for staff onboarding, substitutes, and communication
- Maintain proper documentation and confidentiality in all matters
- Build positive relationships and be actively engaged with the students, parents, staff, ACSD1, State of Wyoming, and community members
- Attend Board meetings as an ex-officio member and provide regular reports
- Adhere to all relevant laws, policies, and charter requirements
- Hire, supervise, and support teaching staff with a commitment to Montessori curriculum
- Foster parent education and community involvement
