Description

Position Summary:

Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings with focus on expanding Catholic Charities’ presence, resources and programming in our rural communities, in order to increase access to services. This position includes program oversight and hands-on coordination for federal Food and Nutrition programs that include CSFP, Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), CACFP and SNAP. EEO. 


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Rural Outreach

  • Promote the mission of Catholic Charities in churches, schools and businesses in our rural communities 
  • Build relationships with community partners – churches, schools and businesses in the rural counties of our Archdiocese.
  • Conduct needs assessments of our rural communities for the purpose of program and/or resource expansion, including food and other services.
  • Host events, prepare presentations and provide assistance at events that may occur outside regular working hours

Food Access

  • Advocate for food security for those in our community through attendance at community partner meetings in the areas of food access and food security
  • Manage federal food programs – which include SNAP, CSFP, CACFP and SFSP. The following tasks apply to all federal food programs:
  • Maintain all training materials and site paperwork
  • Assist with food deliveries and distributions
  • Train all site coordinators and volunteers
  • Attend all state trainings and meetings 
  • Provide participants with information about other food assistance resources
  • Expand federal food programming in our 21 county service area
  • Collaborate with Resource Bus programming on outreach to ensure all clients have access to the maximum food and nutrition benefits available to them through local, state and federal programs.
  • Collaborate with local, state and federal community based organizations to increase food access for low-income families.
  • Work with the Director of Supply Chain regarding food ordering, inventory and delivery of food for CSFP, CACFP and SFSP programming.
  • Manage any grants associated with SNAP outreach, including training staff and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required
  • Must possess a valid Kansas or Missouri Driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance and a verified safe driving record
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, experience with Federal Food Programs accepted in lieu of education
  • Previous experience serving low-income families and community outreach preferred 
  • Passion for ensuring that all families have access to healthy food
  • Outgoing personality and commitment to addressing food insecurity and food access
  • Knowledge of federal Food and Nutrition programs preferred
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to project manage multiple tasks 
  • Demonstrated ability to be an individual contributor (self-motivated and driven)
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility with schedule to work occasional evenings and weekends – including up to one Saturday a month, based on program needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and respect people from a variety of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with others and meeting new people
  • Must be a team player and able to communicate effectively – written and verbal communication – both internal and external
  • Ability to work in a team setting, including Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas volunteers, colleagues, contractors, and funding sources
  • Competency with Outlook, Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Sheets, SharePoint and PowerPoint is preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Ability to lift up and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or find assistance to do so
  • Must have the physical ability to complete tasks in a variety of environments: warehouse, outdoor and indoor food sites and distributions
  • Must have the physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving – travel to CSFP, CACFP, SFSP and CCNEK sites
