Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in grades preschool through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire a part-time (75%)  Theater Technical & Audio Visual Director for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a 10-month position working 30 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. This position is eligible for benefits.


Major Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the technical operations of the Agnes Jeffrey Shedd Theater and the Unicorn Theater for theater productions, school music department concerts, other school events and outside rentals
  • Supervises the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment and the use and maintenance of stage facilities
  • Works directly with students and assists in teaching certain aspects of Lighting, Sound and Set construction
  • Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theater, music, and other productions and projects including assisting guest designers with technical matters
  • Facilitates the use of the technical facilities by CSG staff/students and others engaged in renting the facility, including training staff and students on use of the facilities
  • Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Attends technical week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the show
  • Assists with set construction and design for 3 in house theater productions; engages students in the process of set design
  • Assist with the technical aspects of all school events which may include set up and operation of the podium, projector and presentations
  • Partner with IT department to provide audio, visual, and lighting services, deliver and install audiovisual equipment, maintain and repair audiovisual equipment throughout the school
  • Assists the IT and Marketing & Communications departments with recording and live streaming of school events.

Experience, Characteristics, Qualities:

  • Bachelors in Technical Theater, Technology or equivalent experience; experience working in K-12 schools, preferred
  • Experience with construction, set design, running and programming light and sound boards, basic sound set up and live mixing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups including vendors and customers
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for events and performances
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills
  • A warm and professional customer-service orientation.
  • Ability to act with integrity and professionalism
  • Strong candidates will have proficiency with Google Apps (Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

Physical Demands

The physical demands include being able to sit, talk, hear, stand; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds as well as the ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close and distance vision.
