Job Description  

Sewickley Academy seeks to hire a Health and Physical Education Teacher. This person is responsible for creating a learning environment that fosters and develops an understanding of the relationship of physical health and exercise; inspiring each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional skills; uncovering and promoting student talents in physical achievement; and developing strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports. A qualified candidate will have the experience and proficiency to demonstrate knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms, and individual, dual or team sports and other appropriate learning activities.


Responsibilities  

  • Teaches Lower School Health and Physical Education as well as Middle School Health, Athletics, and Activities
  • Collaborates with the department to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate physical education and health curriculum
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Evaluates and reflects on student growth throughout each trimester and communicates with families through report card comments and frequent emails
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
  • Demonstrate a desire for constant professional and personal growth by regularly participating in and seeking out professional learning opportunities
  • Promote school life by sponsoring student clubs and activities and serving on academic committees

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field.
  • A minimum of one to three years of teaching experience in the areas of Health and Physical Education; experience in Varsity Coaching is a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • The ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and proficiency in the use of technology.
