About The Role

We are seeking a Head of Finance and Business Operations to support the growth of our organization. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of the company’s financial and business operations. In this role, you will provide strategic direction to maintain financial stability and drive sustainable business growth. You will be responsible for developing a financial and operational strategy, setting performance metrics, and creating control systems that safeguard company assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, and foster growth. This position also involves leading multiple teams, including finance, HR, IT, and data/analytics. 


Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and oversee the company's financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term strategic planning.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and investment strategies to optimize financial resources and support business objectives.
  • Optimize the handling of vendor and bank relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Analyze financial performance and key metrics to provide insights and recommendations to the executive team and ownership.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, and regulatory filings in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and policies.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies as necessary.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of financial data and systems, in partnership with outsourced accounting resources

Business Operations

  • Streamline business processes and drive efficiency improvements to support business growth and scalability.
  • Lead the finance function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
  • Lead the IT Function, including help desk, software/vendor management, and compliance. 
  • Lead the Data and Analytics Function. Devise and implement strategies to effectively communicate financial and operational insights through data visualization techniques, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the HR Function, including all people operations. 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Partner with the executive team and ownership board to formulate and execute strategic initiatives and capital allocation decisions.
  • Provide financial expertise and guidance to support business expansion, product development, and market expansion efforts.
  • Mentor and develop finance team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization, i.e., evaluation of potential new business opportunities, profit and loss management, ROI measurement and modeling, etc.
Requirements

What We Look For

  • Proven track record of success in senior finance leadership and operational roles, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • Experience at an executive level. Strong preference for experience on a leadership team or C-Level.
  • Deep understanding of up-to-date financial principles, accounting practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional organizations, with experience in finance and at least one of HR, IT, or Data/Analytics. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance and drive results.
  • Previous success scaling an organization and building high-performing teams.
  • Experience developing and executing a business plan.
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace
  • General knowledge of SaaS sales tax principles.
  • Previous experience migrating an outsourced accounting team to an in-house function.
  • Tax strategy experience within a SaaS organization is a plus.
  • Ability to travel. This role is expected to travel 10-15% (once per quarter for quarterly company planning plus 1-3 ad-hoc trips per year for events or business development).

Compensation

The expected annual salary range for this role is $180,000-$220,000. Actual compensation within this range will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as any applicable employment laws. This salary range is for someone whose permanent address is in the United States.
