The Plant Company (TPC) is a newly established business expanding into its Phase 2 production facility, bringing us to 10 acres! Phase 2 encompasses a greenhouse facility along with a production barn. This is a state-of-the-art, controlled-environment greenhouse for the sustainable production of tropical indoor foliage plants of consistent and exceptional quality.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager will be integral in optimizing and overseeing our accounting functions. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role will focus on enhancing internal accounting systems and controls, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, and assisting with strategic projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Accounting and Controls:

  • Assist with the refinement and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Work closely with the Controller and CFO to align accounting practices with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance checklists and standard operating procedures.

Management and Oversight:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including supervising and mentoring the Accounting Clerk(s).
  • Ensure effective performance of tasks traditionally handled by the Accounting Clerks, including coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
  • Provide clear direction and guidance to the Accounting Clerk(s) on Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) processes.

Accounting Duties:

  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of the general ledger and supporting documentation for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Review and analyze Profit & Loss (P&L) accounts, focusing on inventory management and reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation and accuracy of financial statements and reports, adhering to GAAP principles and deadlines.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversee payables and receivables, processing payments and collections per established procedures.
  • Oversee daily cash flow management, including bill payments, ACH processing, and bank monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with operational tax and regulatory requirements (e.g., sales tax, business licenses).

Continuous Improvement and Strategic Projects:

  • Identify and implement cost control measures and process improvements within the accounting department.
  • Drive continuous improvement, including enhancing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage in special projects as determined by the Controller and CFO, contributing to departmental and organizational objectives.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • · Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience overseeing accounting functions such as A/P, A/R, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and general ledger management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
