Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize engineering tools to assist the manufacturing associates to trouble-shoot shop floor activities to improve shop floor productivity. Coordinate and support the pilot runs of new products and redesigns. Work as a liaison between Design Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Using CAD, develop and/or update the layouts of the facilities, assembly work centers, machinery and equipment, and office space. Analyze different physical configurations for the optimal layout taking into consideration the work flow, material handling, size constraints, and proximity to related processes.
  • Using common engineering tools and practices calculate labor standards for our operations. These tools can include engineering estimates, method time measurements, time studies, and standard data. Calculate the bill of material quantity for raw materials with the appropriate yield factor.
  • Enter data into the ERP computer system following the standard procedure.
  • Utilize engineering and accounting tools to review and finalize the standard cost of our purchased items and our manufactured components and products. This is typically accomplished by analyzing the bill of material. Other times create an engineering estimate of the cost of a product that is in the conceptual stage.
  • Convert an engineering drawing to numerical code so that it can be accurately processed on CNC equipment. Take appropriate actions on the engineering notes on the drawing that might specify grain directions or oxide free edges for example.
  • Using the production schedule, create dynamic nests using our CAM software that increase yields. Communicate with Scheduling if an economical nest can’t be produced with the current mix of components. Look at historical trends of material utilization to evaluate and make recommendations.
  • Assist in the capital expenditure budget and the Manufacturing Engineering Plan. The process for the justification is research, selection, justification analysis, purchase, installation and training.
  • Assist with the selection, installation, startup, and training of new equipment. Document the process by writing a manufacturing process sheet as necessary.
  • Assist the Purchasing department with the evaluation and selection of vendors. Assist our vendors by supplying flat patterns drawings as necessary.
  • Work with our outside and in-house tooling associates to design and make tooling fixtures for our products. These include welding, press brake, turret, and assembly tooling.
  • When processing an engineering change order with new item listed, provide PIC with all the data to set up part numbers. Process the paperwork as outlined in our ISO procedures. Program the sheet metal parts and update the routings if necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
  • Associates in exempt positions are expected to work the hours necessary to complete assignments. For full-time exempt associates, the work schedule is 80 hours per bi-weekly payroll period.
