Clarity Partners is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting local to Chicago, IL. This position will be a leader, strong individual contributor, team builder, and team player. This is a hybrid position that will require 2-3 days in office work.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy & Planning – Develop and implement financial strategies to support business growth and sustainability. Provide financial insights to executive leadership for strategic decision-making.
- Budgeting & Forecasting – Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and long-term financial planning, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals.
- Accounting and Tax – Direct day-to-day accounting operations, month-end, and year-end close, accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking/cash managementand various journal entries and accruals to ensure all business transactions are recorded timely and accurately and facilitate financial reporting.
- Accounting & Financial Reporting – Oversee the preparation of financial statements, management reports, and other required financial disclosures in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards.
- Leadership & Team Management – Review, manage, and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Payroll Management – Supervise payroll (i.e., PTO, overtime, payroll deductions) preparation; experience with Paylocity or other payroll systems is required.
- Research – Research and apply technical accounting (i.e., revenue, investments, tax), as well as financial and operational concepts.
- Operational Efficiency – Oversee administration of current systems; evaluate current systems and identify opportunities to improve financial processes, implement automation, and leverage financial technology to increase efficiency to support significant business growth.
- Leadership Collaboration – Partner with resources across the organization to build scalable processes that help provide timely, accurate, and insightful reporting or address company operational needs and support routine and ad hoc work activities.
- Internal Controls & Compliance – Enhance and maintain policies and procedures pertaining to all department and company activities, including internal controls and systems, to ensure strong recordkeeping, appropriate authorizations, safeguarding of assets and information, and risk mitigation.
- Third Party Relations – Serve as the primary liaison with auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies.
Requirements:
- 8-10+ years of experience in finance and accounting with 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field from an accredited college or university is required; Master’s degree or CPA/CFA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and risk management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and enjoys spending most of the day with numbers and analytical projects; desire and ability to complete tasks accurately and timely.
- Independent and proactive self-starter who takes ownership of work.
- Ability to manage a team both in person and remotely.
- Able to present and partner with leadership in the strategic decision-making processes.
- Organized and able to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator, including the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
- Trustworthy and reliable with highly confidential information.
- Intellectually curious, quick learner who is able to research solutions independently and also seeks help from others when needed.
- Proficiency in general ledger software (i.e., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct), intermediate/advanced MS Excel.
- Proficient in identifying and implementing processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and tolerate ambiguity and frequently changing priorities is necessary; previous experience working in consulting or growth stage environment is a plus.
Clarity is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For the Director of Finance & Accounting role, the base salary pay range is $150,000 - $180,000. The range represents a good faith estimate that Clarity reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of posting. Compensation will depend upon an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
