Located in Rochester, NY and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in the biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision and analytical instrument markets, as well as military and civilian night-vision and visible-range sighting applications. In addition to the highly automated injection molding process, it has well established in-house capabilities to provide custom designed diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, thin film anti reflective and reflective coatings and integrated optical assembly solutions.


Job Summary:
G&H GS Optics is recruiting for a B-Shift Process Technician. The Process Technician is responsible for setting up molds in injection molding machines (ranging from 20-220 tons), loading approved processes, submitting parts to inspection, and providing ongoing production support for high-precision components. The technician will work closely with various departments to ensure the optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity, and delivery while ensuring customer satisfaction. Training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a strong willingness to learn.


B Shift Hours: Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Mold Setup: Install molds in injection molding machines according to production requirements.
  • Process Development: Collaborate with the quality department to develop stable processes and troubleshoot any production issues.
  • Documentation: Assist in developing work instructions for new jobs and modify procedures for existing jobs.
  • Process Adherence: Follow process control plans for the manufacturing line to ensure consistency and product quality.
  • Machine Setup and Optimization: Perform machine setups and process optimization alongside mold operators.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Provide hands-on support in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and corrective action throughout the injection molding process.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Maintain a clean work area to avoid product contamination.
  • Communication: Proactively communicate changes and interact with mold operators, quality control staff, and other departments to ensure the smooth operation of molding processes. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in continuous improvement programs, including process optimization, cost reduction, the introduction of new manufacturing processes, and equipment justification.
Requirements

  

Technology/Equipment/Tools:

  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of molding technology and resins
  • Proficiency in metrology tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), ERP systems, and email
  • Familiarity with quality standards and the importance of maintaining a clean and safe workspace

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Experience in plastic injection molding is preferred, but training will be provided to the right candidate with mechanical aptitude, good math skills, and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Prior manufacturing or production experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of quality standards for a clean workspace.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience with customer satisfaction requirements and a focus on quality.
  • Commitment to following safe work practices and leading by example.

Salary Description
