Assistant Coach- Men's Basketball

Description

The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the Division III men's basketball program, including recruiting, coaching, player development, academic monitoring, and administrative duties. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to enhance the team’s athletic and academic success. In addition, this specific job will have responsibilities of being the Commissioner of the G-League (JV program). 


The G-League will have 30-32 one- and two-star athletes that want to continue their basketball playing career in college. Key responsibilities in administering the G-League will be delivering the Big-Time program of character lessons. Marketing on campus to help create game nights double headers on Tuesday’s, nine evenings during the season, that includes an exciting basketball atmosphere with webcast, announcing, stats, college officials, halftime student contests, band, and cheer performances. 

  

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching and Player Development:

  • Assist in planning and conducting daily practices (Varsity and G-League), individual training sessions, and game strategies.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the G-League (JV program).
  • Provide position-specific skill instruction and develop players’ basketball IQ.
  • Analyze game film to develop strategies for opponents and improve team performance.
  • Motivate and mentor student-athletes to enhance their skills, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
  • Delivery along with the head coach of the programs Big Time Character and Spiritual Development curriculum. 

Recruiting:

  • Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes who fit the program's academic and athletic profile.
  • Develop relationships with high school coaches, club coaches, and prospective student-athletes.
  • Coordinate on-campus visits and evaluations of recruits.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to recruitment and eligibility.

Academic and Personal Development:

  • Monitor academic progress and ensure student-athletes meet academic requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor, providing guidance on personal and academic development.
  • Encourage a culture of academic excellence and support student-athletes in balancing athletics and academics.

Administrative Duties:

  • Assist with team travel arrangements, including transportation, accommodations, and meals, and receipt expense reporting responsibilities.
  • Coordinate film breakdown, analysis, and scouting reports.
  • Manage equipment and uniforms, ensuring proper maintenance and inventory.
  • Participate in fundraising activities and community outreach initiatives.
  • Support special events, game operations, and athletic department initiatives outside of the traditional basketball season.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations and policies.
  • Help complete Transfer Tracer and International forms on transfer and international student athletes for eligibility purposes.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment for all athletes and staff.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on coaching trends and NCAA regulations.
Requirements

   

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred, especially in Division III.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Proficient in video analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Band: $29,250-$88,000/ Annually. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions and department budget.
