Description

The Teen Coordinator for the Best Buy Teen Tech Center is responsible for overseeing and leading the teen programming. This role includes managing the day-to-day operations of teen programming, providing teens with opportunities to engage with technology through hands-on projects. The Teen Coordinator will also collaborate with other staff, such as the Music Coordinator and Athletic Coordinator, to ensure a well-rounded and dynamic program that supports the interests and development of teens. 


This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to work collaboratively across departments, and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment where teens can explore technology, music, sports, and more. 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Leadership 

  • Lead and manage teen programs, including planning, coordinating, and implementing innovative projects and activities. 
  • Oversee all aspects of the program, ensuring it provides engaging and meaningful opportunities for teens, such as music production, robotics, animation, and game design. 
  • Promote program participation, ensuring growing attendance by utilizing strategies that cater to teen interests. 
  • Actively engage teens in program activities, ensuring their voices are included in decision-making and that the program reflects their interests and needs. 
  • Coordinate with other Boys & Girls Club staff, including the Music Coordinator and Athletic Coordinator, to ensure a well-rounded and cohesive teen programming experience. 
  • Communicate program goals to members, parents, community groups, and school officials, highlighting the significance of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center within the broader teen services framework. 

Team Management 

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate teen staff and volunteers, ensuring they are aligned with program goals and organizational standards. 
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support of staff and volunteers involved in the Teen programing. 
  • Foster a collaborative, productive, and supportive team culture, ensuring staff work together to deliver a high-quality experience for teens. 

Partnership and Communication 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal staff (such as the Music Coordinator and Athletic Coordinator, etc.) and external community partners to expand programming opportunities for teens. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Boys & Girls Club and external partners to coordinate resources, events, and activities that enhance teen engagement. 
  • Communicate effectively with teens, parents, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with program objectives and transparency. 

Program Administration 

  • Develop and maintain accurate program schedules, attendance records, and performance reports for the Teen programs. 
  • Ensure the effective use of technology and equipment, including maintaining proper inventory and ensuring the center is stocked with necessary materials. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment, adhering to all health and safety standards. 
  • Conduct regular safety drills and training sessions for both staff and teens to ensure safety protocols are well-understood and followed. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Implement strategies for engaging teens and ensuring a positive, inclusive atmosphere in the program. 
  • Coordinate and implement special events and projects. 
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings to ensure alignment with organizational goals and best practices. 
  • Take on other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE & CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience (minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units). 
  • At least 2 years of youth development experience in an after-school, community-based, or tech-focused program. 
  • Strong background in program development and implementation, particularly in technology, youth engagement, and creative arts. 
  • Proven track record of working with teens, especially in underserved communities. 
  • Proficiency in technology, with an interest in using it as an educational and creative tool. 
  • Valid driver’s license, criminal background check, TB test clearance, and CPR/First Aid certifications. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, & SKILLS:

  • Extensive knowledge of youth development principles and how to incorporate technology into engaging programs. 
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of staff and volunteers. 
  • Skilled in developing and implementing programs that cater to diverse learning styles and interests. 
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities and ensure smooth program operations. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools, particularly those related to creative and tech-based programs. 
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with teens, staff, parents, and community partners.

Work environments may vary, encompassing both indoor and outdoor conditions based on activity locations. Additionally, interactions with youth and adults may involve moderate to high noise levels during activities. Physical exertion may be necessary to move and transport supplies and equipment.

Salary Description
