INTRODUCTION:
Assists pharmacists with delivery of quality pharmaceutical care including preparing, compounding, distributing and dispensing of medication to the patients. Ensures the provision of healthcare services takes place in a professional environment and is accomplished efficiently.
DUTIES:
Assists in carrying out all functions related to the dispensing and preparing of medication as allowed by the Oregon Board of Pharmacy:
- Processes prescriptions, including data entry, insurance adjudication, Prior Authorizations, filling, dispensing, and collecting funds where applicable.
- Contacts providers for prescription refills.
- Contacts providers for the verification of various prescription elements (drug name, directions, quantity, etc.).
- Transfers prescriptions into outside pharmacies.
- Answers phones and checks messages.
- Receives and places calls to and from various entities (patients, providers, Pharmacies, suppliers.).
- Performs duties of Pharmacists in his/her absence as requested except those duties not allowed by current Oregon Board of Pharmacy rules and requlations.
- Assists the Pharmacist with billing procedures.
Assists with pharmacy activities:
- Performs pharmacy-billing activities.
- Orders and receives pharmaceutical merchandise.
- Processes accounts receivable and payable transactions.
- Conducts monthly and yearly inventory.
- Prepares and sends merchandise for credit.
- General administrative duties such as typing, filing, spreadsheet maintenance.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
Assists with stocking and replenishing inventory:
- Helps to maintain accurate and up to date stock/inventory/formulary lists.
- Submits, receives and stocks daily pharmaceutical order.
- Prepares requisition requests.
- Sells prescriptions and over the counter medications.
- Operates cash register and accurately enters sales transactions.
- Operates postage meter.
- Delivers daily cash and sales transactions to Pharmacy Director.
- Monitors retail pharmacy area for safeguarding of over-the-counter medications and supplies, alerts supervisor of suspicious activity.
- Delivers mail order prescriptions to post office as needed.
- Review Charts for target drug reviews as requested by Pharmacists.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED and two years of pharmacy experience, and National Pharmacy Technician Certification, and Oregon Board of Pharmacy Certification and registration.
Knowledge of:
- Computer systems, fax machine, copy machine, multi-line telephones, MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, on-line terminology services, and other medical text, preferred.
- Drug categories.
Other:
- Obtain CPR within 60-days of hire.
