YMCA Camp Abnaki is looking for a Waterfront Director to oversee all things water-related—swimming, boating, and waterfront safety. If you're a natural leader with lifeguarding skills, a love for the water, and the ability to make quick safety calls, this is the perfect role for you!
The contract for this position is from June 5 through August 16. Possibilities of pre-season and post-season work are also available.

What You'll Do:
- Run a Safe & Fun Waterfront: Supervise and manage all waterfront activities, ensuring safety at all times.
- Train & Lead: Prepare lifeguards and waterfront staff with training, emergency procedures, and daily operations.
- Make Safety Calls: Monitor lake conditions and enforce water safety guidelines.
- Keep Things Shipshape: Maintain waterfront equipment, boats, and facilities in top condition.
- Support Camp Programming: Assist with camp-wide events, theme days, and evening activities.
- Lead by Example: Model professionalism, teamwork, and the YMCA’s core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
- At least 21 years old with strong leadership skills.
- Current Lifeguarding and CPR certification (or ability to obtain before camp starts).
- Experience managing a waterfront or aquatic program preferred.
- Boater’s License, Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, or other aquatic certifications a plus!
- Ability to think fast, stay calm under pressure, and make safety-first decisions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must live on-site for the summer season.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Ability to swim proficiently and perform water rescues in various conditions.
- Must be able to navigate camp terrain, lift up to 40 pounds, and stay on your feet for long periods.
- Strong visual and auditory awareness to respond to safety concerns.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Salary Description
$700 - $750 / week
