THE CITY OF DANVILLE:   The City of Danville is located 35 miles southwest of Lexington and is a thriving community with a population of 17,000. The City is a municipal government agency with a highly efficient infrastructure providing a broad range of public services: water and wastewater treatment, police and fire services, 911 emergency dispatch services, parks and recreation, cemeteries, and public works. The City of Danville is also the business hub to a 5 county, 100,000 +region with quality school systems and a highly educated workforce.

Responsible To: 

Finance Director


Position Summary:

Under general supervision of the Finance Director, the Intern will assist in the preparation of the City’s 2025-2026 budget book and support community event planning. The internship will work closely with the City’s Finance Department and Community Liaison. The internship will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public finance, budgeting, and community engagement within a municipal governmental setting.


Duties/Responsibilities: 

· Assist in compiling financial data, reports, and narratives for the annual budget book.

· Help format and organize budget documents to ensure clarity.

· Support the development of charts, tables, and graphics to enhance budget presentation.

· Review and proofread budget sections for accuracy and consistency.

· Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing community events and public meetings.

· Provides support in developing promotional materials, flyers, and social media content.

· Responsible for Communicating with vendors, community partners, and stakeholders to facilitate event logistics.

· Required to attend events to provide on-site support, including setup, registration, and coordination.

· Responsible for gathering and analyzing feedback to improve future events.

· Provides general program support as needed to the City (e.g. meeting preparation, copying, filing).

· May perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements

 Required skills and abilities:

· Analytical/assessment skills (including data entry and data collection). 

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

· Critical thinking abilities.

· Ability to work with minimal supervision.

· Policy consultation and development capabilities

· Demonstrated professionalism.

· Program planning skills.


Minimum Experience Requirements:

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Experience with Canva design software is a plus.


Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time.

· Ability to lift up to 30lbs occasionally.

· Walking, twisting, stooping, and bending on a regular basis.
