8-Week Accounting Internship Program – Rolwes Company
Designed to provide hands-on experience, skill development, and insight into the accounting functions of a dynamic homebuilding company.
Week 1: Onboarding & Introduction
- Objective: Familiarize the intern with the company’s culture, policies, and accounting processes.
- Activities:
- Welcome orientation: Overview of Rolwes Company, mission, and values.
- Introduction to the accounting team and key personnel.
- Tour of the office and relevant departments.
- Overview of accounting software, tools, and systems used.
- Review of company policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Week 2 & 3: Invoice and Accounts Payable Entry & Payment Processing
- Objective: Learn the fundamentals of invoice processing and accounts payable management.
- Activities:
- Hands-on training in entering vendor invoices into the system.
- Verify accuracy of invoice details (amount, date, vendor info).
- Assist with coding and categorizing expenses.
- Shadow the Accounts Payable team to understand the full invoice cycle.
- Introduction to payment processing and review of approval workflows.
Week 4: Cash Deposits & Reconciliations
- Objective: Gain experience with cash deposit procedures and reconciliation practices.
- Activities:
- Enter cash deposits into the accounting system.
- Learn the importance of timely and accurate deposit tracking.
- Assist with month end bank reconciliations.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies.
- Shadow team members to understand how cash flow impacts operations.
Week 5: Month-End Reporting & Reconciliation
- Objective: Assist in the month-end close process and gain exposure to financial reporting.
- Activities:
- Participate in preparing and reconciling month-end reports.
- Learn to review and validate financial data.
- Exposure to journal entries and general ledger adjustments.
- Understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness in month-end reporting.
Week 6: Shadowing Accounting Manager
- Objective: Understand the leadership perspective and deeper accounting processes.
- Activities:
- Spend time shadowing the Accounting Manager.
- Join a field day to visit active communities.
- Learn about strategic decision-making in financial management.
- Gain insight into budget planning and forecasting.
Week 7: Advanced Reconciliation & Financial Insights
- Objective: Strengthen financial analysis skills and refine accounting knowledge.
- Activities:
- Assist with more complex reconciliations.
- Learn how to identify patterns or discrepancies in financial data.
- Review financial performance metrics and reporting standards.
Week 8: Wrap-Up, Reflection & Presentation
- Objective: Reflect on the internship experience and present key takeaways.
- Activities:
- One-on-one debrief with the Accounting Manager.
- Discuss lessons learned, challenges, and areas of growth.
- Provide feedback on the internship program.
- Celebrate the completion of the internship with the team.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Reliable transportation for the field day visit.
