IGS is currently recruiting for a remote Statistical Software Programmer to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).


Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is a remote access assignment. Candidates will work remotely daily and will remotely access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems. Some travel may be required. The candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings periodically.


Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Leads statistical programming activities for the project to include use of statistical software may include R, SAS, SPSS and other tools provided by VA to create and maintain macros, listings, tabulations, graphical summaries, and formal statistical estimates and tests
  • Creates datasets in a standard format, analysis datasets, assesses quality of data analysis programs, and develops automated analysis tools where appropriate
  • Develop programs to assist with data review such as edit checks and custom listings
  • May be responsible for data integration used for clinical summaries and/or creation and quality control of statistical submission components to regulatory agencies
  • Partner with biostatisticians and clinical data management staff in establishing standards for clinical data collection, management and/or reporting of data
  • Independently develop tools, and specifications, for use or other analyses
  • Work with clinical data management staff and biostatisticians to coordinate and schedule data transfers and the delivery of required outputs
  • Create and maintain documentation; responsible for programming QC oversight of deliverables such as analysis datasets and tables, listings, and figures 
  • Must be able to program defensively, check results, and consistently produce accurate output
  • Adhere to customer’s regulations regarding training records, guidelines, and SOPs
  • Troubleshoot technical and project issues
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
  • Support ad-hoc requests as needed 
Requirements
  • At least a master’s degree in statistics, data science, computer science, or informatics 
  • Two years of statistical programming skills using R and R shinny and experience in creating R packages 
  • Knowledge of Python and C++, JAVA script
  • Two plus years’ experiences with statistical analysis of large-scale research data and machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with medical ontologies and organizing/mapping Electronic Health Records
  • Experience with formation of knowledge networks and complex analysis and visualization of EHR based data
  • Experience with the development of novel data models and phenotyping methods
  • Experience with grant funded scientific research projects to support visualization of clinical research findings
  • Medical Research Tool development 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship due to clearance.

Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Active VA Public Trust
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment.
  • Prior work on VA VistA or Oracle Health Millenium 20M Cohorts
  • Familiarity with Knowledge Extraction via Sparse Embedding Regression Network [KESER], Phenotype Multi-ethnicity Genetic Architecture [PheMEGA]) or equivalent
  • Experience with medical ontologies and vocabularies (PheCodes, ATC Codes, LOINC codes, UMLS concepts, OMOP concepts, ICD/RxNorm, etc.)

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
