Position Summary: 

The Design Engineer II is responsible for completing the custom design and drafting of custom turbomachinery such as pumps, turbines, etc. They perform duties using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software including modeling of parts and assemblies, and create drawings with appropriate dimensioning and tolerances, material properties, manufacturing processes, tool design and cost of clean sheet designs with oversight by more senior designers as necessary. The Design Engineer II may also function as a Mechanical Engineer completing analysis in support of new product design and performing hardware troubleshooting.


Key Results Areas: 

  • Lead the 3D modeling phase of a project to complete an assembly that will meet technical and manufacturability requirements within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Function as part of the project team to create part models and assembly models that are used for engineering analysis and drawing creation. 
  • Work with the manufacturing team to design the cost out of parts while employing knowledge of “design for manufacture and assembly” principles. 
  • Create manufacturing drawing package from solid model geometry that will meet technical and manufacturability requirements within budgetary and schedule constraints by using the following:
  • Dimensioning and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Checking drawing/design package for complete and accurate content and to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Work with project team and manufacturing group during manufacturing phase of the project to disposition non-compliant parts. 
Requirements

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required. 

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge in computer aided software
  • Working knowledge in GD&T

Experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical design in a manufacturing environment.

Other:

  • Must be willing to work overtime as required
  • Travel up to 10% of working time.

Desired Job Qualification:

  • Applicable training certificates (FEA, CFD, etc) and successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) or Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) are desirable. 
  • A Colorado State Professional Engineer License is desirable.
  • Experience with Solidworks design software and Solidworks PDM.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $105,000-$125,000. This range represent the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
