We are looking for a Corporate Senior Accountant for our HVAC and Plumbing company will play a pivotal role in managing and ensuring the accuracy of our financial processes. This individual will be responsible for preparing financial reports, managing general ledger functions, and supporting the month-end and year-end close processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction or service industry, ideally within HVAC and plumbing, with a deep understanding of job costing, inventory management, and revenue recognition. This role requires a strong grasp of corporate accounting practices and compliance with GAAP.
Financial Reporting:
o Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
o Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements.
o Provide financial analysis and detailed variance reporting, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities to management.
- Job Costing & Project Accounting:
o Manage and review job costing reports, ensuring accurate allocation of labor, materials, and overhead to individual projects.
o Track and report on work-in-progress (WIP) and completed contracts for HVAC and plumbing jobs, ensuring appropriate revenue recognition.
o Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate job cost forecasting and profitability analysis.
- General Ledger Management:
o Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness in posting transactions.
o Reconcile all accounts monthly, including bank accounts, AR/AP, and other balance sheet accounts.
o Lead and support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate closing.
- Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable:
o Oversee the AR and AP functions to ensure efficient cash flow management.
o Ensure timely invoicing to customers, collection of outstanding payments, and proper coding of vendor invoices.
o Work with the operations team to ensure accurate billing based on contracts and work orders.
- Inventory & Asset Management:
o Track and manage inventory levels for HVAC and plumbing materials, ensuring proper accounting and control of stock.
o Oversee fixed asset accounting, ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of assets.
- Compliance and Audit Support:
o Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations, including tax filings and industry-specific requirements.
o Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits, providing requested documentation and reports.
- Process Improvement:
o Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices within the department.
o Work closely with other departments, including operations and procurement, to improve job costing accuracy and financial reporting.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the HVAC, plumbing, or construction industries.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
· Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition in service-based industries.
· Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems).
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
· Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a proactive problem-solving approach.
Qualifications:
· Experience with HVAC or plumbing-specific software (e.g., ServiceTitan or similar).
· Familiarity with project management software or tools related to construction accounting.
Previous experience in managing or leading an accounting team.
