Avarint’s Chemical Sciences Group is seeking a Project Scientist to support an experimental team conducting Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) at Dugway Proving Ground, UT. Primary duties will include:

  • Reviewing technical requirements, preparing technical approaches, providing technical expertise to more junior staff, and solving complex technical problems associated with laboratory RDT&E.
  • Developing and improving analytical and testing methods for the measurement of a broad spectrum of chemicals in various matrices using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and other techniques.
  • Working with highly toxic chemicals and materials and providing technical expertise and support to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical test equipment (GC, GC-MS, and/or LC-MS/MS) and working closely with project managers to adjust methods to meet project objectives.
  • Reviewing and continuously improving the QA/QC program to ensure that all reported data is accurate, complete, reliable, and of high confidence.
  • Developing analysis reports that include methods, procedures, and analytical data including interpretation of results and annotating the file documentation; and performing technical and/or administrative reviews of files, reports, data sets, results, and conclusions.
  • Maintaining a safe laboratory work environment in accordance with all documented laboratory procedures.

The position also requires that the selected candidate possess:  

  • Strong hands-on laboratory skills with respect to GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS instrument operation and sample analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge in chemistry or relevant technical areas and be able to apply knowledge to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to appropriately communicate with colleagues, management and clients to plan and execute duties.
  • Deep attention to detail and the flexibility and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  


Requirements

    

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Minimum Qualifications


  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or other related physical science or engineering discipline with at least two (4) years of post-doctoral laboratory experience; or
  • Equivalent training and experience in academia or the military, with equivalent years of experience in direct government or contractor support to government contracts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience and proficiency with GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • A medical examination will be required to ensure ability to perform duties and wear personal protective equipment.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS ARE DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • An active DoD security clearance (S or TS).
  • Experience working with Miniature Chemical Agent Monitoring Systems (MINICAMS) for workplace air monitoring during test operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Access, Project, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams).
  • Experience in contract research, working for the federal government and/or private organizations.

 The candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required. The position requires participation in a Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP), administered by the U.S. Army. A medical examination will be required to ensure the ability to perform duties and wear personal protective equipment. The candidate will also be required to comply with a Drug Testing Program.
