Who is the PETA Foundation’s Membership Services Department?

Our team is a group of dedicated individuals who help to ensure that PETA’s work for animals is possible by meeting the needs of our donors and supporters. From donation processing, making updates to vital information, and meaningful phone and e-mail correspondence, we keep our supporters engaged and informed on how their commitment is paying off for animals. Position Objectives: 

A highly customer service–orientated position, the Membership Engagement Associate will serve as a key point of contact for PETA’s current and potential members and the general public ensuring excellent customer service and efficient handling of inquiries, including explaining PETA’s position on issues. This role also helps with recordkeeping, donation processing and various administrative tasks to support organizational operations. This is a great entry-level position for someone who is looking for a career in animal rights and membership development. The ideal candidate will have a passion for protecting animals, experience in customer service or member development and the ability to handle a substantial volume of tasks effectively and efficiently.

  

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• In consultation and verified compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements communicated by PETA and its entities:

     o Provide current and potential PETA members with excellent service through correspondence and telephone contact 

     o Responsible for accurately entering and logging all donations received at HQ Process demographic supporter updates within the membership database ensuring data integrity

     o Uphold confidentiality in all member interactions and record management upholding our commitment to privacy and data protection

     o Create and provide donation summaries, receipts, and custom literature packs for members upon request, ensuring accuracy and completeness

     o Maintain an inventory of office supplies and special items, ensuring availability for staff needs and advising on reordering when necessary

     o Handle high volumes of requests from prospect mailings, ensure compliance with legal and privacy policies

     o Oversee the storage and maintain documentation for the destruction of hard-copy financial records, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards

     o Perform weekly donation recovery outreach using tact and reasoning to engage members positively

     o Retrieve and distribute interdepartmental mail efficiently, prioritizing items based on urgency and importance

• Assist PETA and PETA Foundation staff members with questions

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support departmental goals 

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED

• Minimum one year of office experience with inbound/outbound customer service communications or related equivalent experience required 

• Proficiency in database entry and management and record-keeping

• Working knowledge of database systems and Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel

• Demonstrated exceptional verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Strong work ethic and self-starter, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced business environment 

• Proficiency using a 10-key calculator 

• Fast and accurate typing skills

• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. up and down stairs 

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization and proven knowledge of animal rights issues or current PETA campaigns
