YMCA Camp Abnaki is on the hunt for a fun-loving, organized, and energetic Day Camp Director to bring the magic to our day camp program for boys who’ve completed grades K-4. You’ll mentor counselors, plan epic activities, and create a summer full of adventure—all while being part of a tight-knit camp family. 

 

The contract for this position is from June 5 through August 16. Possibilities of pre-season and post-season work are also available.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Run the Show: Oversee all camp activities for Day Camp, making sure everything runs smoothly and safely. 
  • Lead the Team: Support and mentor day camp staff, helping them be their best. 
  • Plan the Fun: Organize games, waterfront time, archery, arts & crafts, and more to keep campers engaged and excited. 
  • Keep Things Organized: Manage attendance, schedules, camper reports, and parent communication. 
  • Be the Go-To Problem Solver: Handle camper behavior with patience, fairness, and creativity. 
  • Stock the Fun: Make sure the Day Camp Shed is clean, organized, and well-stocked with supplies. 
  • Help Campers Gear Up: Run the camp store for Day Camp and assist kids in making purchases. 
  • Keep Families in the Loop: Communicate with parents so they know their campers are having an awesome time. 
  • Join the Camp Community: Participate in evening watch, leadership training, and assist with supervision and leadership presence after Day Camp hours. 
Requirements

What We’re Looking For: 

  • At least 20 years old with one year of college or work experience beyond high school. 
  • Experience working with kids and a strong understanding of child development. 
  • Great leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • A patient, fun-loving, and energetic personality. 
  • Strong organizational skills for schedules, attendance, and camper reports. 
  • Ability to lead small group activities and skill-based programs. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands: 

  • Be ready to walk, stand, and move around camp (uneven terrain included!). 
  • Have strong visual and auditory awareness to ensure camper safety. 
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stay active throughout the day. 
  • Quick decision-making and responsiveness to emergency situations. 
Salary Description
$700 - $725 / Week
