Starting Rate: $23.50 per hour or higher based on education and experience.

Statement of Purpose: This position is responsible for Front Desk as well as performing the duties of a Medical Assistant.


Career Path: Patient Experience Expert/Medical Assistants manage a varying degree of work depending on the size and scope of location. There are three Patient Experience Expert/Medical Assistant levels: PEXP/MA I, PEXP/MA II, PEXP/MA III. A Patient Experience Expert/Medical Assistant can directly affect their career path (level) based on the addition of supervisory responsibilities assigned by their Practice Administrator. Levels are reviewed annually as part of the annual review/merit cycle. 


Front Desk-Primary Tasks

  1. Promote and practice CAN Community Health’s mission, vision, and values
  2. Greet and assist patients with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  3. Accurately collect, process and post patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles and outstanding balance.
  4. Verify and updated patient insurance information and eligibility during check-in
  5. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, managing any necessary follow-up for missing documentation
  6. Assist with other front desk duties including answering phones and managing patient paperwork
  7. Accurately learn EMR system, must pass audits and SME testing with 95% accuracy.
  8. Ensure all patient insurance has been verified.
  9. Run and reconcile end of day reports against daily collections and POS reporting.
  10. Coordinate patient transportation
  11. Review and address assigned tasks in EMR i.e.: telephone encounters, actions and assigned bucket(s).
  12. Assist with check out and other administrative/clerical tasks
  13. Maintain adequate stock of office/breakroom supplies
  14. Maintain confidentiality in full accordance with HIPAA
  15. Performs all other duties as required.

Medical Assistant-Primary Tasks

  1. Performs medical intake procedures including vital signs and history.
  2. Performs complete patient evaluation and assessment.
  3. Records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
  4. Performs immunizations as directed by the physician.
  5. Practice safe phlebotomy skills using standard precautions
  6. Documents all patient care in an accurate and timely manner.
  7. Completes all medical prior authorization and documentation requirements.
  8. Maintains temperature logs for all clinic refrigerators containing specimens and medications.
  9. Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
  10. Assists with referrals and coordinates services with other organizations, federal and local program
  11. Collaborate with clinic team members to coordinate patient services.

Secondary Tasks:

  1. Promotes and practices CAN’s values and mission and adheres to all policies and procedures.
  2. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and/or family in accordance with professional and departmental standards.
  3. Participate in continuous quality improvement of services rendered to CAN clients.
  4. Develops and fosters networking relationships with community and support resources.
  5. Utilizes resources and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  6. Demonstrates courtesy, compassion and respect in all interpersonal relationships with CAN clients, staff and visitors.
  7. Maintains professional manner in all aspects of job tasks.


Requirements

Education/Professional Experience:

  1. Medical Assistant Certification
  2. CPR certified

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of HIV medical terminology, procedures, medications and accepted treatment practices.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations and mandates.
  3. Good communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors and staff members.
  4. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques, be a self-starter, work effectively, organized and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Ability to read, understands, follows and enforces safety procedures.
  6. Bi-lingual (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  1. Neat, professional appearance
  2. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
  3. Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting, walking, and standing for brief periods of time.
  4. Requires expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, visual and auditory acuity.
