Position Overview:
The summer counselor at Davidson Academy is responsible for attending all swimming pool field trips. The work schedule requires Tuesday and Thursday availability from June 3 - July 17. The summer counselor upholds Davidson Academy's Christian values and educational standards while ensuring a productive and positive learning environment for students.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive at the school promptly and prepared to supervise assigned camps according to the provided itinerary and instructions.
- Supervise students and ensure their safety.
- Maintain camp discipline by upholding the school's code of conduct and implementing effective classroom management strategies.
- Foster a nurturing and Christ-centered learning environment that encourages student participation and spiritual growth.
- Supervise students during field trips, class time, transitions, and other assigned duties (e.g., recess, lunch monitoring, before or aftercare).
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and any relevant observations or incidents during the day.
- Protect the safety and well-being of students at all times, following school procedures and protocols.
- Treat all students with respect, fairness, and in a manner consistent with Christian principles.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and classroom matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Advanced water safety training (certified lifeguard preferred).
- Current Adult/Pediatrics CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to complete before camp begins.
- Experience working with children in an educational, field trip or summer camp setting.
- Familiarity with Christian values and a commitment to upholding the school's religious principles.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with students, parents, and staff.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle various grade levels.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to student safety.
- Ability and genuine desire to work well with a team.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of background checks and any required training or certifications.
- Adherence to the school's policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
- Availability to work on short notice and for varying lengths of assignments.
