Machine Setup Assistant

POSITION PURPOSE:


Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Setup Assistant gathers cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures, inspection gages, collets, job packets and anything else that is required to set up a job in a machine. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collect job specific tooling, gaging, and paperwork for setup personnel 
  • Coordinate with material handlers to deliver material to machines
  • Break down machines following job runs and return tools

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive work orders
  • Retrieve job specific tooling, fixtures, QA documents, gages and paperwork
  • May dress, grind or sharpen tools as necessary
  • Work with engineers on new part setups
  • Lubricate machines as needed with oil, grease and coolant
  • Return tooling, fixtures, and gages as required upon job completion
  • Maintain tooling and fixtures in proper working order
  • Order tooling as necessary
  • Manage tooling in cabinets and auto crib
  • May assist and train other staff 
  • Must be quality conscious and continuously look for quality improvements

REQUIREMENTS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
  • 2 to 5 years machine setup or operator experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area, including equipment and perform all assignments in a safe manner
  • Exhibit core values of integrity and accountability
  • Demonstrates the ability to read, write, speak and hear, interpret documents and instructions in written, oral, blueprint, diagram and schedule form in English
  • Perform basic math calculations 
  • Ability to work at established levels of production 
  • Ability to lift and carry of up to 50 pounds safely 
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, stoop, crouch and kneel 
  • Vision requirements include (corrective and non) close range, distance, color, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus
  • Comply with all company, safety and quality policies and procedures

  • Exposure to fumes, chemicals and airborne particles
