Description

Are you passionate about providing support to individuals and families in their time of grief? Hospice of the Piedmont is looking for a Director of Bereavement to provide leadership, development and support to bereavement services and clinical social workers.  In this role, you will ensure high-quality bereavement and clinical social work services, aligning initiatives to support community needs and the organization's strategic plan. 


Supervises: 

Adult Bereavement Services 

Kids Grief and Healing  

Clinical Social Workers 


Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.   
  • Prior experience in a clinical leadership capacity.  
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of bereavement counseling is required.  
  • Four years of administrative/management/leadership experience with emphasis on program design and management, compliance, policy and procedure development, staff supervision, and coordination of services.  
  • Hospice experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of hospice volunteering, chaplain and social work services preferred. 
  • Driver’s license, personal automobile and current automobile liability insurance 

Job Responsibilities: 


Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for Adult Bereavement Services, Kids Grief and Healing, and clinical social workers.
  • Lead community program development and agency planning, including policy development to fulfill bereavement and supportive care objectives. 
  • Participate in IDG, staff, departmental, and other meetings as appropriate. 

Operational Management: 

  • Oversee daily operations of Hospice bereavement and clinical social workers, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Hospice regulations. 
  • Monitor and evaluate program operations and service delivery for efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with the education department to ensure timely and compliant staff development and in-service education. 
  • Provide clinical assessment, counseling, and support to bereaved family members, making community referrals as appropriate. 
  • Ensure that the patient and family are at the center of every action and decision. 

Community Engagement: 

  • Develop and network with community bereavement, faith-based, veteran, and other programs to improve outcomes. 
  • Plan and provide community education on issues of death, loss, and grief to increase utilization of bereavement services. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the acceptance of referrals and provision of bereavement services to bereaved individuals and families. 

Staff Development: 

  • Provide case consultation to chaplains and social workers as needed. 
  • Monitor performance and documentation of direct reports, identifying areas for improvement through audits and training. 
  • Regularly evaluate the practice and documentation of staff, using findings to strategize opportunities for improvement.
