Description

YOUR PURPOSE

Lead responsibility is to establish new memberships and accounts for current and potential members. Present and explain credit union products and services in greater detail to members to cross-sell value-added products and build deeper relationships for all membership and account types. This position requires an ability to communicate effectively with prospective and current members and to represent the credit union positively and professionally. Performs needed transactional duties to serve members by receiving or paying out funds with high accuracy. Maintain accurate transactional records. Courses and/or training may be required.


YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Member Service

  • Responsible for ensuring that each member interaction creates a positive member experience while providing relevant solutions to improve the financial and personal well-being of the member
  • Greet and welcome members to the credit union in a courteous, professional and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate and efficient member transactions
  • Receive share drafts/checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, examine share drafts/checks for proper endorsement, and enter deposits into computer records. Assist with mail or email transactions as needed
  • Cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of signatures and overall member relationship
  • Open new accounts for members. Set up new account files and provide members with all necessary information for membership including IRA accounts, trust accounts and professional accounts
  • Research accounts for deposit, withdrawal, and loan payment discrepancies. Assist members in balancing their accounts
  • Receive consumer loan, home loan and other payments, and ensure accuracy when posting to the computer. Generate member receipts. 
  • Place holds on accounts for uncollected funds
  • Count, check, and package coins and currency
  • Balance cash drawer as established by procedures and compare totaled amounts to the computer-generated balance sheet. Research and resolve discrepancies. Report any discrepancy to the supervisor as necessary
  • Check night depository bags and record proper information according to credit union procedures
  • Scan daily work and perform other teller functions that might be needed from time to time, and assist others in completing tasks and work assignments
  • Ensure that the teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, brochures, etc.
  • Serve as Teller/MSR as needed by branch
  • Assist Tellers and other MSRs in research and resolve discrepancies
  • May serve as Vault Teller

Service Selling

  • Responsible for guiding members in the direction of their dreams by ensuring we offer relevant solutions
  • Promote, explain, issue and cross-sell other credit union services such as electronic services, debit and credit cards, money orders and safe deposit boxes
  • Provide information on investment alternatives to members wishing to deposit funds with the credit union. Look for opportunities to improve members’ financial well-being including other loan needs to refer to a lending employee

Technical Skills

  • Responsible for learning the core skills of the position along with continuously learning and staying current on regulatory & policy changes
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all related policies, procedures, and rules and regulations, including robbery procedures

Miscellaneous

  • Perform additional duties as required by the Branch Manager, Regional Manager or other designee for efficient operation of the branch and/or credit union. This includes the possibility of being assigned temporarily to other locations

The full pay range for this position across all the states in which we hire is $18.67-$26.13. The figures shown represent the minimum and maximum of the range for this role. Individual offers are made dependent upon a candidate’s experience, education, and skill level.

Requirements

EXPERTISE YOU NEED

Education & Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of credit union's computer system for performing basic input/output tasks.


Capabilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Ability to accurately handle cash speedily when dealing with members and balancing cash before and after use 
  • Ability to operate a computer including input, output, and inquiry to member accounts and other account information required in the member service function
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and tools, such as personal computers, postage machines, fax machines, telephones, photocopiers, and typewriters
  • Familiar with the differences in the basic number of products and services offered by other financial institutions to those offered by Horizon Credit Union

ABLE TO

To perform the essential functions of this position an employee must be able to meet the following workplace demands: ability to converse with others, detect sound, identify and detect objects, count, read, write, operate a computer, handle and feel objects, reach with hands/arms and be stationary and stand and move for long periods. Occasionally an employee will lift/pull/push and carry up to 25 to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and be able to maintain balance doing these activities. Position requires sound reasoning, good judgment and ability to apply knowledge toward work activities. The noise level is moderate and typical of a normal office environment.
