These positions will care and teach children 0-5 years of age at local childcare centers in the Sarasota County area on a short-term basis.


The role is ideal for those looking for flexibility in their work schedule-no weekends. It is also an ideal employment pathway for those interested in starting a career but unsure of where to start. Benefits to becoming a substitute include:

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Provides supervision of children in day-to-day activities in support of the teacher; ensures health and safety of children.
  • Maintains classrooms and play areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner; sets up rooms and areas for various activities according to the teaching plan for the day.
  • Maintain open communication and a positive relationship with other staff, parents, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Completes accident or incident reports when appropriate, according to YMCA of Southwest Florida policies and procedures.
  • Completes job related work including clocking in and out, beginning and end of day paperwork, mileage log, or surveys.
  • Appropriately communicate concerns or issues with immediate supervisor as they arise.
  • Cooperates with, and follows through on suggestions/recommendations of, managers, leaders, and specialists to establish a quality comprehensive child/family program.
  • Supervise children at all times. Always know the number of children in your care and their location.
  • Maintains child/staff ratios in accordance with policies and regulations. Report any request to do otherwise to supervisor immediately.
  • Reports child abuse and neglect in accordance with state licensing policies and YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Participates and works as a team-player with all center staff, including but not limited to teacher, co-workers, supervisor/management, the staff members/specialist in education, health, and family and community partnerships.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

  • Ability to work as a substitute teacher least an average of 4 days a month, or as agreed upon in the employee orientation.

· Ability to plan, modify and implement quality classrooms for children with a knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices,

· Knowledge of health/sanitation practices regarding meal service and food preparation/service.

· Ability to keep accurate written records.

· Ability to arrive at work daily and on time.

· Ability to work with limited direction.

· Ability to evaluate situations and make prompt decisions.

· Knowledge of classroom management techniques.

· Ability to work with children including those with special needs.

· Ability to be reliable, responsible, and accountable to job requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS:

· A valid and current Florida Childcare Staff Transcript.

· An enjoyment and respect for children, respect for parents, enjoyment of working in collaboration with faculty and staff colleagues, joy and enthusiasm in their work, and a commitment to self-development in order to become a model worthy of imitation by the children.

· Understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practices

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Successfully complete DCF background screening requirements as well as meet the association policies on background screening.
