Job Summary

The Manager, Electrical Engineering is responsible for overseeing and managing electrical engineering functions, ensuring high-quality designs and execution. This role will be responsible for developing engineering designs up to 30% completion, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in electrical engineering and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and serving as a key technical resource for procurement and construction teams. Additionally, they will coordinate with third-party electrical engineering contractors, equipment suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and operation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the renewable energy sector.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office, design (AutoCAD or equivalent), power system (ETAP or equivalent) software tools.


Requirements

Skills and Competencies

  • BESS experience is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience with the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation of energy facilities.
  • Experience with substation design, SCADA, controls and system integration.
  • Broad electrical engineering acumen to develop and/or review single lines, schematics, wiring drawings, equipment specifications, load flow and short circuit calculation, etc.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, project management, and time management skills.
  • Quickly accepts challenges and learns new skills. Willing to do what is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Review and provide technical feedback on engineering submittals during the project lifecycle. 
  • Support interconnection processes throughout the development and construction phases. 
  • Oversee and manage external engineering firms engaged by the company. 
  • Conduct technical and cost evaluations of battery, inverter, transformer and other equipment and services to be procured for construction projects. 
  • Serve as an SME, commenting, issuing, and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), 3rd party engineering deliverables, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and submittals from construction teams. 
  • Assist in the development of 30% electrical design plans. 
  • Collaborate with pre-construction teams to develop and issue Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and bid contracts. 
  • Continue to provide technical support after projects become operational.

Work Conditions

The Manager, Electrical Engineering will be based in Chicago, IL and may work in a hybrid arrangement with a combination of in-office and remote work. The position requires regular travel (up to 25%) to development and construction sites. The Manager, Electrical Engineering must be able to physically navigate and work within construction site environments.
