Description

General Summary:

Seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to join our union shop in Wisconsin. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining medium and heavy trucks, trailers, and construction equipment.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Knowledge of major truck systems including diesel and gas engines, and ability to diagnose problems, make repairs, and perform preventive maintenance
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including dozers, backhoes, skid steers, backhoes and cranes
  • Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT inspection requirements and regulations
  • Ability to operate basic shop tools including welders, cutting torches, battery & air tools
  • Ability to fabricate, cut, weld, construct and build with steel
  • Familiarity with the basics of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively with mechanics and management 
  • Ability to keep a clean and organized workspace including but not limited to floor/workshop, toolbox, and equipment on-hand
  • Understand and practice workplace safety

Requirements


  • High school graduate or GED
  • Completion of diesel tech school program preferred
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience 
  • Maintain a class A CDL in good standing including a federal medical card free of restriction
  • The ability to climb ladders and steps and work on equipment surfaces is required with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ideal candidate would primarily be involved in Light Duty focused work up to Heavy Duty work depending on day-to-day shop flow
  • Physically demanding position. Requires continuous standing, walking, and lifting. Requires lifting materials on a regular basis and frequent twisting, bending, and turning with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to travel and work outside at all times of the year – although rare some circumstances arise where road travel and overnight stays are required
