SUMMARY
The Director of Finance oversees the organization's financial operations and the Human Resources department, ensuring effective management and strategic direction in both areas. This role involves developing financial policies, managing budgets, and supporting HR initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITONS
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- LMA – Leadership, Management, Accountability
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the departments.
- Act as coach and mentor to all employees in the Finance and HR departments.
- Oversee the daily workflow of the departments.
- Provide constructive and timely performance conversations.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establish and recommend financial objectives, policies, and procedures to enhance the company’s financial health.
- Propose improvements to existing corporate programs based on financial analysis and industry trends.
- Oversee Accounting, Credit Administration, Human Resources, and general financial administration.
- Prepare and present reports that summarize and forecast business activities and financial positions, including income, expenses, and earnings.
- Direct the preparation and management of budgets to ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Conduct monthly financial benchmarking against other HVAC distributors.
- Advise executive management on fiduciary responsibilities regarding the company’s 401K program and deferred compensation plans.
- Manage relationships with banking institutions to support financial operations.
- Direct the determination of depreciation rates for capital assets.
- Advise management on operational adjustments related to tax code changes.
- Prepare and oversee company audits, including bank, business, vendor, and tax audits.
- Prepare required reports for regulatory agencies.
- Participate in and promote continuous learning and development through training initiatives such as MN Air University, HR programs, tech-support courses, and webinars.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Proficient in accounting principles and practices.
- Strong writing skills for preparing reports, business correspondence, and procedural documents.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from diverse audiences, including managers, clients, customers, and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a four-year college or university.
- 8-10 years of experience in accounting and financial management.
- Minimum of 5 years Management experience (preferred).
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
