POSITION: Summer Programs Assistant Instructor (Part Time)

JOB SUMMARY:
This temporary position is responsible for instructing and facilitating activities during our summer program classes at Pablo Center at the Confluence.
Pablo Center at the Confluence is seeking a passionate and creative assistant instructor for our summer program classes. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to lead and facilitate engaging, project-based learning experiences for students.
As a Summer Program Instructor, you will collaborate with the STEAM Programs Manager and lead instructor to design and continuously improve classes, ensuring a dynamic and enriching experience for participants. This role provides valuable hands-on teaching experience, the chance to refine instructional skills, and opportunities to learn from industry professionals.
SALARY: $17 per hour
WORK DAYS/TIMES:
Monday through Friday 9 am-12pm and/or 1 pm-4 pm.
Classes offered are one-week in length over the weeks of June 9-13, June 16-20, June 23-27 July 7-11, July 14-18 and July 21-25.
Flexible scheduling with the option to work one or multiple week-long sessions.
CLASSES:
Topics include art and design, theater, world dance, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), Rube Goldberg simple physics machines, board game design, Dungeons & Dragons, coding, and LEGO robotics (Mindstorm and SPIKE kits). The full class list will be shared with applicants.
STUDENT LEVEL: Varied classes for students entering grades 3-5, 4-6, 7-9, and 7-10.
DUTIES:
· Assist in classroom instruction including but not limited to:
o Presenting on assigned topics
o Demonstrating skills that students need to learn either in your field of expertise, interest, or assisting in facilitating other classes
o Facilitate ice breakers and brain break activities
· Assist students during work time including but not limited to:
o Being able to help with a problem without giving the student the answer
o Moving about the room so that all students are seen and get help if they need it
o Help students use the design process to solve their problems
· Help manage students when leaving the building for a walking field trip
· Assist with student drop off and pick up
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Encourage a kind, collaborative, creative, and energetic classroom
· Provide a safe space for all students to succeed and learn
· Assist with classroom clean up and rearranging when needed
· Perform other related duties as assigned
· Ability to create lesson plans and document curriculum
PREFERRED SKILLS:
· Experience working with children
· Ability to problem solve
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Be able to read a classroom and adapt to what students need
· Must be able to communicate in front of a classroom
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
WILLING TO LEARN SKILLS:
· LEGO Mindstorms or SPIKE, block coding, and/or basic art and design programs
