Description

  

United Fire is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Alterations Specialist to join our team. This position involves performing a range of alterations on firefighter uniforms, including hemming pants, adjusting jacket fit, sewing patches, and ensuring that all garments meet our high standards of quality and durability. The ideal candidate will have strong sewing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with specialized fabrics and uniform requirements.


Responsibilities: 

· Perform alterations on firefighter uniforms, including hemming, resizing, and repairing garments.

· Sew patches, name tags, and other customizations onto jackets, pants, and other uniform pieces.

· Adjust fit and construction of uniforms to meet individual specifications and comfort requirements. 

· Inspect completed work for accuracy, durability, and quality.

· Maintain and operate sewing machines and other equipment.

· Follow written and verbal descriptions of sewing tasks.

· Follow safety protocols and handle materials with care.

· Bag, label, and distribute completed garments for pick up from customer service associates.

· Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and meet customer expectations.


Qualifications:

· Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

· Good hand-eye coordination

· Strong organizational and follow-up skills

· Possess solid math abilities

· Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

Position Details: 

· Full time, non-exempt hourly

· Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent. 

· 2 + years’ experience using industrial sewing machines preferred.

· Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

· Proficiency with sewing machines and hand sewing techniques. 

· Experience working with heavy fabrics and durable materials preferred.

· Strong attention to detail and quality control.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a sewing table.

· Ability to use hands-to-finger, feel and reach with hands.

· Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. 

· Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

· Specific visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
