JOB SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Director is responsible for developing and managing United Way’s community engagement strategy to inspire and motivate stakeholders to support community impact and fundraising goals. By building relationships with corporate and community volunteers, the director will ensure a dynamic, efficient, and effective volunteer base for the organization and the community. This role involves collaborating with all functional areas of the organization and being accountable for creating community engagement strategies, operational plans, success metrics, and volunteer initiatives. The director will work closely with Resource Development and Community Impact teams to strengthen corporate relationships and engage volunteers in making a significant community and programmatic impact.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead volunteer matching experiences for donors, membership and leadership groups in partnership with key Resource Development staff, Impact Managers and volunteer committees.
  • Support the volunteer engagement strategy to position UWSA as the premier community mobilizer of volunteers.
  • Manage signature events, including Shoebox, Write Start, and Project Warmth.
  • Support collaborative community partnerships, including the San Antonio Volunteer Association (SAVA), Volunteer Center, H-E-B Feast of Sharing, Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner and any applicable volunteer committees.
  • Develop and customize volunteer projects for various stakeholders, including corporate partners.
  • Build community capacity to effectively manage volunteers by coordinating resources, training and engagement assistance for key stakeholder groups.
  • Mobilize and connect volunteers by managing a comprehensive online volunteer database, which includes websites, opportunity listings, inquiry and application forms.
  • Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with nonprofit partners, corporations, internal staff and donors.
  • Collaborate closely with Resource Development and Community Impact managers to ensure seamless execution and ongoing communication.
  • Define the strategy for growth of the external volunteer base and oversee the evaluation and assessment of the Volunteer Center's technological tools.
  • Collaborate with Impact and Community nonprofit partners to understand volunteer needs and provide support.






Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree – required / master’s degree – preferred in a related field of study.
  • Five years or more experience in the human services field.
  • Experience in program evaluation
  • Experience staffing a broad cross-section of volunteer leaders and/or non-profit partners.
  • Strategic leadership of collective impact efforts.
  • Experience in working effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Strong relationships in the nonprofit, public and private sectors. 
  • Staff and volunteer management. 
  • Budget and fiscal management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Normal nonprofit office environment with little exposure to dust, noise and extreme temperatures.
  • Extended work on personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
  • Reliable transportation required with the ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events locally, routinely and around the state and nationally, occasionally.
  • Monday-Friday, 8:15 am to 4:45 pm work week with occasional evening and weekend hours.

  • Knowledge of the nonprofit arena and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, community partners, donors and volunteers.
  • Ability to engage, lead, motivate and manage a diverse staff, community partnerships, community leaders and volunteers.
  • Ability to master the use of volunteer database systems and other web-based tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including development of content relevant to the Impact Council for a wide variety of audiences and media.

Salary Description
$60,000 - $70,000 per year
