Description

 Mi Escuela Montessori seeks Lead Montessori Teachers in the English-Speaking and Spanish-speaking classrooms at the following levels:

Primary (Preschool-Kindergarten): must be Bilingual

Lower Elementary: multi-grade 1-3 (may be Spanish dominant, English dominant or Bilingual)

Upper Elementary: multi-grade 4-6 (may be Spanish dominant, English dominant or Bilingual)


The Lead Montessori Teacher is a Montessori guide who helps direct his/her students’ activities academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach his/her full potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures. 


The Lead Montessori Teacher will implement the Montessori curriculum in a targeted Spanish or English immersion environment to a multi-grade group of learners. This teacher will collaborate with the English/Spanish Lead Montessori Teachers and Educational Assistants in order to plan and coordinate curriculum, instruction, and assessment across two languages of instruction (English and Spanish) in a two-way immersion program. 


Due to the integrative nature of the Montessori classroom, the teacher is expected to be able to cross disciplines in instruction and extend learning to project and problem based learning. The lead teacher will observe students and guide their learning. In addition, the lead teacher will supervise teaching interns and their classroom Educational Assistant.


The position follows the school year calendar, beginning in August and ending May 31, with breaks for Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring.




Requirements

 

  •  Must be currently eligible to work in the United States (We are unable to sponsor work visas at this time)
  • Florida Teacher Certification (or the background and ability to obtain) in the areas of endorsement needed including Spanish Foreign Language, Primary Education (Prek-3rd Grade), Elementary Education (K-6), Reading Endorsement and/or English for Speakers of Other Languages (or the background and ability to obtain)
  • Native level fluency in Spanish or English and conversational fluency in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university
  • MACTE Montessori trained and certified or a desire to obtain Montessori Certification
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural, diverse setting and to fully participate as a team member in a professional learning community
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

 Preferred Skills

  • Skill in oral and written communication in both English and Spanish (or a willingness to develop bilingual communication skills) in order to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques of Montessori program.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge and skill implementing dual language immersion and/or meeting the needs of second language learners
  • Experience in classroom management and supporting students to make positive choices
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Initiative to implement innovative projects, programs, and/or otherwise add value to the classroom and/or the school environment and to make supplemental Montessori materials
