Description

Summary: Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment! Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating. The Boating Manager will provide campers with organized and educational waterfront programs in a safe manner. Programs include swimming classes, boating classes and free swim periods.


Immediate Supervisor: Waterfront Director 


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


· Lead in oversight of boating activities as needed. 

· Ensure smooth and efficient boat handling, docking, and launching procedures.

· Responsible for keeping the entire beach and boating area clean.

· Responsible for the care and maintenance of waterfront equipment.

· Maintain a safe and clean environment for boats and campers.

· Supervise and train staff, including lifeguards, unit leaders, and counselors.

· Conduct regular safety inspections and address any potential hazards. 

· Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation

· Must follow and enforce all safety rules and regulations of the waterfront.

· Must follow the guidelines of the American Red Cross in swimming and boating instruction procedures.

· Must be always alert to the campers in the water and their needs.

· Must assist with the buddy system and checks.

· Lead or assist in leading swimming lessons. 

· Implement safety protocols and procedures

· Keep the Waterfront Director posted on any problems regarding waterfront procedures.

· Takes an active part in all camp activities.

· Assists the Program Director and the unit staff with rainy day programs.

· Must learn and perform emergency procedures effectively.

· Promote high camper and staff moral

· Maintains an elevated level of efficiency by participating in all scheduled activities, in-service training (ie: Practice drills, endurance swimming).

· Must wear uniform bathing suit, shorts, whistle, and identifiable waterfront lifeguard shirt while on duty (shirt provided by Lake Rickabear Day Camp).

· In response to COVID-19 outbreak, follow all procedures established in the Camp Communicable Disease Plan. 

· If 18 years old or older must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights 

· Performs other duties as requested by Waterfront Director and Camp Director.


Daily Rate: $122 (new staff) - $132 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.27 - $17.60 per hour respectively.

· Minimum Age: 18

· Current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED AND American Red Cross Waterfront Skills certificate

· Ability to follow directions from Waterfront Director and enforce Girl Scout, ACA and NJ Youth Camp Safety procedures.

· Ability to learn and effectively perform emergency procedures

· Provide instruction and lifeguard for boating/swimming programs. 

· Individuals must be safety conscious and have sound judgement.


Physical Requirements

· Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.

· Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions. 

· Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
