The associate head coach works with the Director of Swimming and Diving to coordinate and expand the operation and performance of the respective program. Associate head coaches also work with the Director of Athletics in several areas and collaborate, as needed and as appropriate, with staff members in the department, including, but not limited to, athletic trainers, the fitness and performance coordinator coach, and facilities personnel.
Expectations and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Director of Swimming and Diving, prepare and execute annual training and competition plans, specifically for varsity level swimmers and, when needed, within a range of junior varsity level swimmers.
- Work with the Director of Swimming and Diving to determine coaching assignments for practices and competitions.
- Serve as a lead in player and high-performance culture development creating and managing a metric of essential skills that provide players with appropriate feedback and action steps.
- Be the primary coach for a group of varsity swimmers while having direct coaching involvement with all training groups.
- Work with Admissions to identify and recruit potential students to enhance the academic and athletic mission of Mercersburg Academy
- Work with the strength and performance coaches, coordinate the supplemental training approaches and schedules for all swimmers.
- Serve as the primary resource in working with athletic leadership to schedule interscholastic competitions and invitationals.
- Working with the athletic leadership, oversee the logistics and operations for the interscholastic swim season, USA Swim season, and international competitions, including travel arrangements and home event arrangements.
- Assist in all facets of recruiting, enrollment, and retention..
- Facilitate submission of contest results to designated media outlets.
- Submit cumulative and individual statistics to the athletic department for archiving at the end of each season.
- Assist the Director of Swimming and diving in managing and monitoring the budget
- Actively promote Mercersburg Academy and the Swimming and Diving program through social media, professional contacts, alumni network, and recruiting/scouting trips
- Support school programming and needs with duties to be determined based on the needs of the school and the skill sets of the associate swim coach. This could include academic, residential, or co-curricular assignments.
