The Assistant Principal plays a vital role in supporting the high school's leadership and operational functions. This position requires an individual who embodies maturity and sensitivity, with exceptional communication skills that enable them to build strong, meaningful relationships with students and adults. This position requires a consistent professional appearance and demeanor, serving as a role model within the school community. In addition, the High School Assistant Principal must exhibit strong leadership qualities and a calm, steady presence, ensuring a stable and thriving educational environment.
Curriculum Development
- Assist with the planning/implementation of curriculum
- Review lesson plans of faculty members
- Assist in bridging curriculum across the grade levels
- Assist the HS Principal in materials/textbook selections
- Research educational issues and topics
Responsibilities to Faculty/Staff:
- Assist in providing in-service workshops to offer professional development opportunities
- Assist in furnishing the faculty with available professional development opportunities as deemed of value either collectively and individually
- Assist and offer guidance on day-to-day issues as needed by faculty/staff
- Provide evaluations of employees of the High School
- Orient new faculty/staff in the role of teacher/teaching aide in the High School
- Observe classes regularly
- Assist in leading faculty/staff meetings
- Assist the Principal in building a feeling of trust and confidence among the faculty/staff members
Responsibilities to Students:
- Guidance in areas of discipline, instruction, evaluation
- Create a nurturing environment for positive growth and development
- Set high, yet attainable, expectations for student achievement
- Ensure that safety and security policies for students are enforced
- Assist in providing individual instruction when recommended
- Attend school functions and performances focused on the student
- Read all faculty reports/recommendations written about students
Responsibilities to Parents and Community:
- Communicate as needed with parents through written or email correspondence
- Provide opportunities for parents to meet with teachers/staff
- Assist in offering parenting workshops/seminars as deemed necessary
- Meet with individual parents when deemed necessary
- Assist with setting up parent/student handbook to keep parents informed of policies
- Develop mutual respect between school and home
General Administration:
- Attend all school meetings as requested
- Assist in the admission process as needed for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment
- Plan with facility manager and business officers to maintain building and grounds
- Work closely with Learning Center Coordinator
Professional Growth and Development:
- Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures, or other educational events
- Attain membership in appropriate educational organizations
- Keep current on educational issues through research and study
- Other Duties as assigned by the High Principal or Head of School
The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) assistant principal must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the school's mission and philosophy. The assistant principal must be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity and the academic and leadership abilities necessary to teach God’s truth. Skills in effective communication with diverse individuals, appropriately handling confidential information, and maintaining a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
