General Description
Work involves responsibility for processing a variety of technical procedures. Duties include carrying out library processes and procedures, adding materials to the database, and resolving problems in the procedures. The work requires that the employee has good knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of the library’s technical support and processing functions. Responsible for preparing books and other shelf materials for the Laurens County Library System. The main focus of this position is processing responsibilities, but may occasionally work the service desk performing routine library functions (checking in/out books, ID cards, etc.).
Works under the general supervision of the Collection Development Supervisor.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
· Processing library materials (adding book covers, call numbers, labels, stamps, etc.) for all the libraries in Laurens County.
· Adding materials to the ILS.
· Maintaining statistics of work done.
· Work at the Circulation desk as scheduled/needed.
· Work with the Collection Development Supervisor and Cataloger.
· Perform other duties as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, and crouch. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet, although noise levels may increase during scheduled programs. Staff may be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures and electromagnetic radiation as in a computer screen. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Sound judgment; knowledge of basic library methods of operation, techniques, and procedures; computer proficiency; good knowledge of automated systems as they apply to book processing; some knowledge of reader interest levels; good oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
Ability to interact with associates and patrons courteously; ability to make decisions other than routine to meet controlling conditions; neat personal appearance; and pleasing manner.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Public service, clerical, and library experience preferred.
