Description
SUMMARY
The school seeks a talented, enthusiastic, experienced educator to serve as a Fourth Grade Homeroom and Literacy Teacher. The position requires faculty to work collaboratively to create and implement a program that is engaging and confidence-building. The faculty member will join an experienced and talented team that is eager to meld innovative approaches with traditional ones in order to reach each student.
This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The school seeks an outstanding educator for Fourth Grade Literacy, whose duties comprise:
- Responsibility for a homeroom of 17 students in a departmentalized grade level.
- Teaching literacy to two homeroom sections for 90 minutes each every day.
- Participating in assigned lunch, recess and duty after school carpool duties.
- Writing progress reports on all students three times per year; leading scheduled parent teacher conferences four times per year.
- Collaborating within a team of five homeroom teachers as well as within a team of three literacy teachers.
- Attending divisional and departmental meetings, participating in professional development activities, observing/being observed by colleagues/administration and giving/receiving feedback.
- Attending and chaperoning the annual three-day overnight trip with fourth grade students to an off-campus location in May.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess the knowledge or experience needed to design developmentally appropriate lessons for students in fourth grade.
- Possess background knowledge in the developmental characteristics of elementary school aged children.
- Possess background knowledge in implementing a balanced literacy approach; experience and knowledge of current best practices for teaching literacy.
- Have the ability to support students in their development of key habits of successful learners.
- Collaborate with other members of the Fourth Grade and Lower School teams to discuss and share recent research and national standards that have proven to lead to effective learning.
- Have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with elementary students.
- Have excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) and a highly refined work ethic.
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree required, specialization in Education preferred.
