Medical Assistant - 30 Hours (Afternoon/Evenings)
Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Nursing Manager and under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Medical/Nursing Assistant performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. These include routine patient care activities, preparatory functions for patients and providers, and other routine and/or related duties that medical assistants are trained to perform.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews medical records and provider schedules prior to clinical sessions
  • Prepares patients and examination rooms for provider visit
  • Greets patient, completes appropriate screenings and testing, and obtains necessary information from the patient and/or patient’s family 
  • Performs all tests, procedures, and screenings accurately (ex. Vital signs, POCT Glucose)
  • Clearly and accurately documents information in the electronic medical record including results of all testing and screening performed
  • Communicates information clearly, accurately, and professionally to patients and staff
  • Follows HIPPA protocol and always maintains patient confidentiality
  • Assists providers during examinations and procedures as needed
  • Ensures that all lab requisitions are accurately and completely filled out, all specimens are logged appropriately, and specimens requiring immediate transport to the lab are transported properly
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment per Infection Control Manual
  • Cleans and maintains utility and supply areas
  • Ensures that clinical areas are adequately stocked, maintains an inventory of supplies, stores and rotates supplies per Infection Control Manual, and communicates discrepancies in supplies received to the Nurse Coordinator
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a team member; participates in orienting peers
  • Attends nursing and organizational staff meetings and participates in quality improvement initiatives
  • Identifies educational needs and participates in program offerings
  • Complies with all DotHouse Health policies and procedures
  • Provides safe, ethical, and culturally competent care
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 months to 1-year post-training preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient care clinic, office, and clerical support procedures.
  • Ability to work within a team framework.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong customer service, organizational, systems and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication/presentations skills, and systems applications skills

Certification/Licensure: Certification from an approved medical assistant or certified nursing assistant program. Current BLS certification.

Software/Hardware: Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
