Under general supervision, drives and operates various types of trucks, including solid waste trucks, dump trucks, snowplows, and salt boxes. Responsible for collecting and transporting solid waste and recycling materials. This person inspects and maintains vehicles, operates light and/or hand-held motorized equipment, performs related unskilled manual tasks, and documents supply usage.
Illustrative Duties
- Maintain safe and efficient operation of various types of trucks, including dump trucks, automated sidearm loaders, front-end loaders, and rear packers to collect and dispose of public refuse; haul material and equipment to and from work sites; load and unload material and/or equipment; operate light and/or hand-held motorized equipment.
- Drives on assigned routes.
- Operate levers and controls to pick up and empty large refuse boxes and return boxes to their original location; deliver collected solid waste and empty contents of the truck at a designated location.
- Assists with yard waste collection and empties contents at a designated location.
- Operates snowplows and saltboxes.
- Performs routine inspection of vehicle driven (e.g., checks fluid levels, turn signals, brake lights, headlights, etc.); reports any mechanical difficulties to appropriate authority; cleans truck as needed.
- Performs related unskilled tasks; shovels, collects trash, and road material
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Performs general work in support of Special Events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Description
$19.30 - $24.13 Hourly, $40,144 - $50,190 Annually
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to Perform Repetitive Manual Labor Tasks
- Valid Driver’s License
- You Will be Required to Obtain a Class B CDL Upon Being Hired.
- This is part of your training in your probationary period
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the Equipment
Preferred:
- Valid Kentucky Class B Commercial Driver’s License
- 2 Years of Documented Experience Driving Various Large Trucks or Heavy Equipment. Such as Dump Trucks or Solid Waste Rear Packers & Front-End Loaders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general methods used in the collection of refuse and debris; mechanical operation of front-end loader; Kentucky driving regulations; and safety practices and procedures. Ability to perform repetitive manual labor tasks. Ability to follow general oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships. Must possess the ability to communicate tactfully with the public. Skills in the operation of levers and controls located in trucks.
