Job Title: Lead Server
Classification: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Director of Food and Beverage
Job Summary
The Lead Server plays a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional dining experience aligned with The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s mission, values, and service standards. This position is responsible for leading front-of-house service operations, coordinating between service staff and kitchen personnel, and ensuring guest satisfaction through attentive, professional service. The Lead Server also oversees training of new staff and serves as a liaison between management and team members during service.
Essential Responsibilities
Dining Service & Guest Experience
- Greet Members and Guests warmly, inform them of menu specials, and answer questions about food and beverages.
- Take food and drink orders accurately and enter them into the POS system.
- Coordinate timely delivery of all food and beverage items, ensuring proper preparation and presentation.
- Open and serve wine as required.
- Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience, respond to additional requests, and anticipate needs.
- Clear and reset tables between courses and after guests leave.
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Guide and support service staff during shifts; assist servers as needed to maintain smooth operations.
- Relay messages and direction from management to service staff.
- Assign stations based on staff availability and skill.
- Ensure all service standards and dining room setups meet club expectations.
- Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate specials, updates, and expectations.
- Supervise and mentor new team members; oversee training and onboarding processes.
Banquets & Events
- Assist in setup, execution, and breakdown of banquet and special event services.
- Work as part of the banquet team to ensure efficient and polished event service.
Operational Duties
- Complete all required opening, closing, and shift checklists.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all server and dining areas.
- Ensure proper handling of guest bills and payment transactions.
- Assist with minor food prep and other kitchen duties when necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Acts as the service staff supervisor when managers are unavailable. Responsible for ensuring team compliance with all service standards, health and safety regulations, and daily operations.
Competencies & Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead by example and maintain high service standards
- Solid knowledge of food and beverage service, including wine presentation
- POS system proficiency (Jonas experience preferred)
- Excellent time management, delegation, and organizational abilities
- Basic math and inventory skills; knowledge of cost of goods (COGS)
- Familiarity with member preferences and service habits
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a high-end restaurant or club setting
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must pass background check
- Strong attendance record with minimal unexcused absences
- Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Willing to take part in ongoing training and testing in food & beverage knowledge
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and outdoor conditions
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds for extended periods
- Occasional lifting of furniture and banquet equipment required
