Position Summary
As a member of IMS’ internal tax department, the Tax Associate will work with the tax and cross-functional teams to support various tax functions. This position involves assisting with tax compliance, financial reporting, and tax research related to our business operations. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of tax principles and an interest in direct and indirect taxation, compliance, and multi-state tax matters. The Tax Associate position offers the opportunity to gain exposure to compliance, audits, research, and process improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing information for federal, state, and local tax filings, both direct and indirect
- Annual 1099 preparation and distribution
- Support tax compliance efforts related to multi-state operations
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures for tax-related activities
- Assist in preparing tax provisions and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and Tax Accounting
- Work with external tax consultants and auditors to ensure compliance and resolve tax issues
- Help prepare and organize tax work papers and documentation for audits and tax planning
- Facilitate sales tax, use tax, and other business tax filings and state registrations
- Analyze tax data and ensure accuracy in internal tax records
- Stay updated on tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements that impact the business and assist with implementing changes
- Collaborate with internal finance, legal, and accounting teams on tax-related matters
- Assist with M&A due diligence from a tax perspective
- Additional projects as necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 3+ years of tax compliance experience in a working environment
- Exposure to multiple business tax types preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite tools, as well as accounting software (Intacct is a plus)
- Strong understanding of sales and gross receipts tax regulations, nexus, and experience with tax software (e.g., Avalara, 1099 hosting services such as Track1099)
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention-to-detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while working independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- CPA or working towards CPA eligibility is a plus
- Familiarity with the litigation support industry is a plus
- Experience with Business Insurance is a plus
