Work Schedule for a Transportation Engineer 

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2 days per week. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is our corporate headquarters. We are conveniently located just outside of Washington DC in downtown Silver Spring, close to regional trails and networks on on-street bike infrastructure two blocks from the Silver Spring Metrorail/MARC Station and bus depot. Our beautiful 8th floor suite offers stunning views of DC and surrounding Montgomery County. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit. 


We are targeting a salary range of $77,800 to $94,600 for this position.

Requirements

Qualifications of a Transportation Engineer: 

• A minimum education of bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related 

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification required

• Demonstrated knowledge through experience or course work of Word Processing Software, AutoCAD and Synchro.

 

Job Duties of a Transportation Engineer 

• Implement firm’s methods, standards and practices including QA/QC procedures 

• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of implementing authority procedures and standards for typical office clients 

• Implement roadway design related requirements and best practices with a high level of proficiency in 2D roadway design with an understanding of 3D elements 

• Prepare advanced analyses and calculations to support decision making

• Demonstrate software skills (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Synchro, AutoTURN, Revit, MicroStation, OpenRoads, Solidworks, ArcGIS) to an intermediate / advanced level of proficiency, to support engineering tasks.

• Implement and interpret industry best practices and design guidance (MUTCD, AASHTO, State/Local DOT, City/County, etc.) with a focus on roadway design related requirements 

• Prepare engineering plans, basis of design, engineering reports, and calculations applying industry best practices and implementing authority procedures and design guidance 

• Independently prepare cost estimates for small, non-complex, projects or project elements 

• Respond to contractor requests for information and prepare supporting documentation for construction field changes 

• Serve as a Task Leader within a project 

• Demonstrate and understanding of specifications 

• Assist in the development of design guidance text and graphics 

• Perform other duties from time to time 

• Local travel to client sites required approximately 5%
