Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Network and Systems Operations to lead the design, deployment, monitoring, and optimization of our nationwide network of connected charitable gaming systems. This critical leadership role blends technical depth with operational oversight, encompassing secure and scalable network infrastructure, remote device connectivity, field deployment, and uptime-critical operations—including end-to-end ownership of the software and OS deployment lifecycle across our distributed device fleet.
As part of the technology leadership team, you'll work closely with software, hardware, DevOps, cybersecurity, and compliance teams to ensure bulletproof delivery of game data, secure cloud-based reporting, and seamless updates across our nationwide infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the architecture and operation of our hybrid cloud and field-connected infrastructure, supporting thousands of deployed devices and secure backend systems.
- Lead a high-performing team responsible for network uptime, systems stability, secure communications, OS-level configuration management, and incident response.
- Design, implement, and manage resilient software and OS deployment workflows, including version control, phased rollouts, rollback mechanisms, and post-deployment monitoring.
- Build and maintain secure, scalable, and compliant environments for field systems (e.g., embedded Linux, Windows IoT, or custom OS stacks).
- Collaborate with DevOps and Software Engineering to optimize CI/CD pipelines for Unity-based applications and embedded platforms.
- Establish robust remote management capabilities for diagnostics, OS patching, telemetry, alerting, and remote troubleshooting.
- Ensure regulatory and jurisdictional compliance during all rollouts, including full audit trails, rollback capability, and change control processes.
- Implement and manage infrastructure in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to support reporting, device communication, and centralized operations.
- Define and monitor SLAs, deployment KPIs, uptime targets, and health metrics using observability platforms like ELK Stack, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Splunk.
- Design and enforce secure network protocols and system access controls, including firewall rulesets, VPN architectures, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and patch compliance.
- Oversee the use of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM) to enhance scalability and reduce operational overhead.
- Implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies, ensuring resilience across all layers of the system stack.
- Manage tooling and processes for infrastructure automation, including scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Collaborate with compliance and security teams to uphold data residency policies and protect sensitive information—particularly across SQL and NoSQL database environments.
- Support procurement and vendor management for infrastructure tools and service providers.
- Build and scale a responsive field operations support function, including escalation paths and real-time system diagnostics capabilities.
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience in network operations, systems engineering, or infrastructure roles—including 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated experience building high performing network operations teams
- Proven experience managing distributed device networks, secure remote deployments, and OS/software lifecycle management at scale.
- Deep technical understanding of operating systems, embedded or headless systems, and hybrid network topologies.
- Expertise in network security practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and zero-trust frameworks.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern cloud-native architectures.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration systems (Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Practical experience with monitoring and logging stacks (ELK, Nagios, Zabbix, Splunk), and performance telemetry at scale.
- Competence in infrastructure-as-code and scripting tools for automating configuration and deployment processes.
- Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases in secure, regulated environments.
- Experience designing disaster recovery strategies and executing business continuity plans.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Prior experience in regulated industries such as gaming, healthcare, or fintech is strongly preferred.
- Clear communication and decision-making ability, balancing technical strategy with business impact.
